    stupidly slow internet

    This is a discussion on stupidly slow internet within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; over the past few weeks the internet has been goin slower and slower so i ran a few speed tests ...

      stupidly slow internet

      over the past few weeks the internet has been goin slower and slower so i ran a few speed tests from different sites and the all came back as 300k-600k or so this is on an 8mb package.

      line stats

      Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 9.0 db 4.0 db
      Noise Margin 11.4 db 22.0 db

      is it possible i am beeing badly throttled?

      wireless or wired?

      If wireless, then try wired to see if it is something interferring with your wireless signal.

      Sky don't throttle their LLU packages. As the previous poster suggested, try a test using ethernet for comparison, also use the speed tester on this site.

      ok using wired in the master socket and sky speed test its spiking up to 1200k then droppng to 500 ect

      stats wired

      this is with a replacement sagem f@st router i bricked my other one last week and this one seems worse 500ping in games and have to reboot it constantly

      gonna try the test socket next

      test socket is just the same, ive got a netgear router with sky username and password it but i carnt get web pages to load to test it just to connect, any suggestions?

      Connecting to the test socket shouldn't make a difference, you're already getting the maximum connection speed for your current package. Are you definitely sure you're on the Mid package and and that Sky haven't mistakenly got you on their infamous Connect service instead, which would account for any throttling going on.

      Is there anything else accessing your internet connection?

      It may be worth giving Sky a call as there's no reason why you shouldn't be getting around 7mbps throughput.

      Which speedtester are you using?

      What OS?

      I wouldn't ring Sky. Sky are providing you with the 8Mb.

      You should be able to tell if you are on Everyday or connect as they have different upload speeds, I can't remember which one 448 is tho!

      on the blower to sky now, erm using sky speed test and its on both vista and xp nothing else on apart from phone and box
      handed me over to solutions now fingers crossed

      Did you find out whether you are on the connect package? Your upstream at 448kb is the generic upload speed for the connect package.

      Could you post the stats from the tets socket, does the noise margin go up.
