Ordered Unlimited, ended up with Connect

Hello, I've been lurking on here for a while but a first time poster.

Recently moved over from BT to Sky because I was fed up with the poor speeds and expensive costs BT were providing. Initially I was told that I was fine for the Unlimited package.. after a couple of weeks of chasing sky and not getting anywhere, they told me that unfortunately my exchange (Norwich north) was now full and I would have to go on Connect until a port became free. This then took another week or so to activate and eventually came on last Thursday (27th).

Speeds have been up and down. At the weekend downloads were only 50kbps. Yesterday morning I was getting 250kps (which I would expect).. last night it was barely Dial Up. I changed the router to the test port and it immediately went got faster, however I'm dubious it is the other socket because I'd never previously had any problems.

Has anyone else been told they are now on the waiting list for Unlimited? Are Sky telling the truth? I understand my exchange is activated so they could be telling the truth but after the last few weeks, I'm dubious about anything Sky tell me!

Will post some connection stats tonight if they help. Can't at the moment as I'm at work!

To find out if you are in sky network area, use this from samknows enter your phone number and it will tell you if sky LLU is at your exchange.

You could but Sky are quite right, there's only a finite number of slots available for the unbundled service so if they're oversubscribed then yes you will have to wait on the Connect service until a slot becomes available. You should have chosen to go with one of the other LLU providers instead as the Connect service is dire.

Contact Sky again and see if they can offer any guarantees, if not cancel and go with another provider but do it quickly while you still can.

Well having just spoken to Sky, apparently more slots have become available and I'm now switched over. My package should be upgraded in the next week!

Anyone else done this and had any problems? The chap said I should only expect downtime of a couple of hours..

Don't forget to post your new stats when your package gets changed over.
You will see a big difference in speed at night, no slow down like connect.

Re: Ordered Unlimited, ended up with Connect

I was advised when I first signed up to Sky Broadband in Nov 2007 (Yes a while ago now!) that there was no capacity / room available and I was placed onto connect for about 5 months until I was moved onto mid. Yes connect was bad but I didn't find it any worse than the ADSL based package which I had come from anyway, of course once moved over to LLU it was much faster

I also had a knock down price of 5 a month for connect the same as mid while I was waiting to be moved over as well

Re: Ordered Unlimited, ended up with Connect

The main difference is that Sky Connect back in 2007 was not over capacity and was running as well as any BT based product.

The same is not true now, it is dire! for all but the basic web use.

Re: Ordered Unlimited, ended up with Connect

I made a complaint to Sky about how the whole affair was handled and they credited my account with 30!

This morning the service is actually working okay for the first time but they confirmed I will get the LLU service on the 10th.
