If the router lights are still showing green then it's possibly a problem with your wireless connection, not the broadband connection. Go into the router page and try changing your wireless channel.

A good indication of whether the actual connection drops is to have a look at your router stats, specifically the WAN system up time.

Many think that because their wireless has been working fine for months, even years, it will always work. This is not the case. All it needs is one other person to start using wireless and it can mess everything up. It does not even need to be someone close at hand, a new user several streets away can cause others to change their channels and the domino effect can knock yours out.

Download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover what channels are in use in your area. Change your channel to one as far from those in use as possible.

If you are not using wireless, then it may be your LAN adapter which is playing up. Go to its manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. Uninstall your existing drivers and reinstall using the latest ones.

It is also possible your security software has received an update which is causing problems. If you have received an update for your Firewall or AV software(virus definitions excluded) recently, suspect that.

Thanks for the replies fellas. It does seem likely now that it was some sort of wireless disturbance as we are getting some really stormy weather here now. Perhaps the signal was being hit just before the bad weather arrived.
