      New / Upgraded Connection

      Hi,

Have just moved in with a friend in E1, and he was on the 2meg / 2gig cap'ed service, whatever sky call it.

I asked him to upgrade it to the 20meg / unlimited...

When I first looked (pre upgrade) it was sitting at 2000kbs

Now (a day later) it's sitting at

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 4091 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 510 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

They've said it will take 'upto' 48 hours to upgrade, however should I expect this to change? seems very low to me.

      Cheers

You need to post your router stats so we can see you attenuation and noise margin, we should then be able to give you a better idea of your top speed.

      Re: New / Upgraded Connection

      Hi,

The question was more on the process, i.e. do they step upgrade...etc but anyway here you go

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 6 db
Noise Margin 28 db 22 db

      Re: New / Upgraded Connection

You start at 4mb and work up once DLM has started which can take 72hrs from the upgrade time and run for upto 10 days.

You will be happy to know that with those stats you should easilty see 20mb download with 1.3mb upload speeds which is the maximum that Sky offer.

You are one of the lucky few

      @smithy99

Awesome, thanks for the update... that's good to know, just wasn't sure how their upgrade process worked.

      btw, what is DLM?

DLM is a process that sky put the line through and it finds the best stable connection for your line, but some times it can get this wrong and so needs correcting by sky.

Have a look here - Sky & DLM

Remember do not switch your router off during the training period or it can cause problems.
