Just got off the phone with them again and after they basically said that after carrying out tests on my line which is news to me 0.8 is the best speed that they can offer me even though I have always been stable at 1.3. He would not put me through to CST and said that the speed could fluctuate up or down by half a Mb.

This is starting to annoy me now.

More than likely a recent dsl check was done which update your 'max speed' on sky's system as approx. 0.8mb then. The tier 1 you were talking to got to the bit of the script which says 'is the EU syncing lower than the max speed for the line?' The agent chose no and fobbed you off.

I think this is a case of getting through to someone who is not a moron (perhaps a bit harsh as they do have a script to follow). Ring back and hopefully you'll get through to someone who can give a bit of 'discretion'.

Alternatively, and best you do this I think, is to ring back and suggest to tier 1 you wish to have your max delays lowered as you're a gamer and your pings are horrid. Even if you aren't, then that's one way to get through to CST. Do keep it in the test socket with a new filter and no extension DSL cable and you'll be put through to CST almost automatically after a ticket is raised.

Keep us updated if any problems.

Of course it is!! on ADSL2+. Some of the agents on tier 1 are so obstructive it is not true and only follow a script. Anything outside it and they are lost. They have no idea what the difference is between ADSL2+ and G.DMT, CST do and could put you back where you were in minutes.

I blame the top end of Sky really, they should know that ADSL2+ seldom works on long lines and forcing it on them is a mistake.

You are better ringing late, after 10.30, you are more likely to get through to CST. The suggestion about ping is a good one, use it

      Re: Recent drop in speed

So I finally got through to the CST team after giving up last night. Apparently DLM has been started again on my line and that to stop it now could cause issues. The bloke will be phoning me back in ten days when the the test has completed.

He has acknowledged that my speeds are below what they could be and that if necessary he will manually retune after the test has been concluded.

I suppose now that I will just have to wait it out and hope he does phone me back.

      Cheers.

      Re: Recent drop in speed

I think you have been fobbed off again. It should be obvious ADSL2+ is not going to work on your line so running DLM is pointless. I have never seen it reported before that stopping it running 'causes issues'. Many have had it done.

A couple of days into DRM and its got worse.

      0.67 DL
      0.13 UL

Cannot wait another eight days with this poor performance.
