In that case then, I would phone them and ask to be put through to CST and ask them to increase your speed, or you can ask them to start DLM. I would just ask for the speed to be increased and don't forget to get the upstream increased as well, they seem to forget this rather often.

Re: "Sky Broadband is about to get faster" email

Since I got the e-mail from Sky they have chopped my speed by nearly 1MB down to 2MB and this morning I get an e-mail about the new monthly limits they are applying, nice improvements Sky.

So now I can download less even slower...... priceless!

And the utter cheek is, if I go over my limit twice, they will upgade me to the 20MB package but my line will only support 2MB according to Sky.

I look forward to Freeview being switched on in my area, once I can get that everything Sky is bye-bye.

Post yor router stats and let's see if there is any room for improvement.

Chances are you have been put on ADSL2 which does not like longs lines, going onto GDMT may get your speed back.

I don't know if you meant my stats, but you can have a look at them if you like.

      Fairly decent and reliable speed.
      August 13th 13.28PM
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 3296*kbps 416*kbps Line Attenuation 50.0*db 30.0*db Noise Margin 7.1*db 13.0*db

      Then whammo
      August 30th 16.32PM
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 2048*kbps 603*kbps Line Attenuation 53.5*db 29.9*db Noise Margin 7.9*db 16.0*db

      August 31st 13.28PM
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 1534*kbps 603*kbps Line Attenuation 53.5*db 29.9*db Noise Margin 7.0*db 16.0*db

      And today,
      September 26th 14.40PM
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 2240*kbps 416*kbps Line Attenuation 50.0*db 30.0*db Noise Margin 7.3*db 27.0*db

Hope this means something, because it means zilch to me.

      Thanks for looking

It looks to me like you have been dropped back to G.DMT.

Surely Sky are not doing this without being asked?

I do not understand the difference between ADSL2 & G.DMT. But I do know it is getting the slower by the day, this is my connection today.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1408 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 27.0 db

And the help via e-mail is as frustrating as, well this!

I have checked your line this morning and can confirm that we are not able to raise your speed any higher than what it is at already.

I do apologise for any inconvenience caused
      .

But if I go over my new limit they will charge me double what I'm paying now? Could somebody point out to me, how my broadband has improved, because I think I'm too dim to see it.

You are not dim, it has not improved, in fact it has got worse. With a good external line you should get 4-5 Mb

Do you have a Test socket, see link below, if so plug in there, take and post your stats. Your speed will not change, but we want to see if there is an improvement in the noise margin.

How many extension sockets do you have? Is the filter the first thing plugged in all that are in use?

      Test socket stats.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 1760*kbps 416*kbps Line Attenuation 50.0*db 30.0*db Noise Margin 7.8*db 14.0*db

Four sockets in total and two are used. One for the phone and the other for the modem and yes a filter is used.

      Many thanks for you help.

Re: "Sky Broadband is about to get faster" email

It looks like you have a fault on your external line, or possibly a faulty router. Do you have any noise on your voice line? Try dialling one digit and listening, you should not hear any crackles or pops, only a very faint hiss at most.

You might also try making a call on the phone and take the stats of the router while you do so. Does the noise margin or speed increase?
