Thumbs up Pings lower at last ! (took a week to sort)

      Hello,

As some of you may know i have been trying to get my pings lower for online gaming, COD 4 being around 130 ping !! check my post here How do my router Statistics look ?

I got in today and checked my router stats the "DownStream Connection Speed" changed from 7616 to "8128"

Pinging BBC - Homepage from the cmd "now" gives me between 40-50, lowest i saw was 39. A big improvement from 80/90ms !!!

So the max delay sky said they where going to alter seems to have worked.

COD 4 has altered from pings of 120/130 to around 50 to 60 only played on 1 server so far though, see how its works out on another server.

The net connection has been a little strange since they changed the settings, i have reset the router twice and seems alright at the mo fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the help !

      Ben

      ****UPDATE****

      I could cry

Its gone back to how it was !!!!

Pings in COD 4 are around 90-100 and cmd ping BBC - Homepage gives me 70-90ms

Why would it be working fine for 20 mins then go back !!!

      Gonna ring sky now..............

Hi the connect package Traffic Shaping is starting to affect all connect user`s. especially gamers. Gaming with the connect package is no good as you are now finding out. The main reason Connect is over Capacity, over subscribed and still growing

BT have put you on Fast Path, but that does not help when Sky is throttling you. If you are a gamer, move, there is no alternative.

      Thanks for the replies.

Been on the phone to Sky support which i have to say have been awesome !

Nothing more they can do, my line aint good enough. Something about Noise Margin needing to be at least 10 mines at 6/7

The ping's have lowered from 130 to 90, but still a far cry from the 50 i want.

My areas rubbish for broadband, the guy checked around for me and its all BT exchange no one else to move to.

Oh well have to make do with what i got gutted i love online gaming, this is gonna ruin it.

      Thanks for all the help.

Knowing what exchange you are on opens up a few possibilities for one we can check to see what broadband connections /isp's are available in your area, Check this out :: SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search

I couldn't honestly say if it was good or bad but your exchange doesn't have any LLU operators, which kinda sucks, is it a small place you live in?

I was being nosey at your exchange Anyway at least BT have set a target date for upgrading the exchange, Although it is a long way off.

19/10/2006 BT have set a target date of Q3 2010 for the switch to 21CN for the Woodborough exchange
