      Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

      We've been on the Sky Connect package for about 2 months now, and my net speeds have been really slow.

      If I'm correct Connect lets me have broadband upto 8MB. Now i know I'm not guaranteed this, but i think i should be getting faster speeds than what i am getting.

      Here are my router stats:

      Downstream 1856 kbps
      Upstream 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 11.3 db 16.0 db

      I know what the connection speeds mean, but I'm unsure about line attenuation and noise margin. If someone could explain and let me know if this is what is causing the problem, it would be much appreciated.

      Hi the connect package is Traffic Shaped from 4pm till Midnight and also run a Bt Test Result speed test instruction are on how is on (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

      I know what the connection speeds mean, but I'm unsure about line attenuation and noise margin. If someone could explain and let me know if this is what is causing the problem, it would be much appreciated.

      Your downstream is low could be caused through various reasons could you do your stats from the test socket to see if there is any difference

      Thanks for the reply Steve. Here are my results from the test you linked me too...

      Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.


      Your DSL connection rate: 1856 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)

      IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps

      Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1256 kbps

      I don't have a test socket, i don't have one of the cases with the removable bottom plate, when i open the casing up, it's just hollow with wiring in it.

      Hi is the ring wire disconnected it is the number 3 wire on the back of the casing have a read through there is information on the ring wire
      BT master socket help. then can you say what is on the back of the casing

      I've just checked. On the back of the casing it says LJ2/3A

      There's an orange/white cable going into 3,a blue/white going to 2, and a white/blue going to 5.

      Remove the orange cable from connector no. 3.

      Is that the only socket you've got? If I'm not mistake that type of line jack unit is a secondary, not a master socket. Does it have a capacitor in it?

      I've just took the ring wire out of the socket the router is connected to, and here are the stats...

      Downstream 2112 kbps
      Upstream 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 8.6 db 16.0 db

      The downstream has increased by 256 kbps.

      I have a socket in the hallway, but it is exactly the same as the one in the living room (the one the router is connected to).

      Is there anything else i can do to increase by stats? My profile is 1500 kbps, but I'm receiving more than this :S

      If you have a socket in the hallway that is probably the master. Open it and you should see a capacitor inside. Remove the wire from terminal 3 on this faceplate and your sync may improve further. If it is the master, there will be a cable going in and another going out.

      You cannot download faster than your profile, if you are downloading at more than 1500, then your profile has risen. With your new sync speed your profile should rise, but it can take from a few hours to 3 days to set.

      Right, i now have the router hooked up to the master socket, i removed the ring wire and these are the stats....

      Downstream 2240 kbps
      Upstream 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 8.9 db 17.0 db

      It has increased a little again.

      I just tried to do the test again on speedtester.bt.com/ but i keep getting this message....



      After it's reached 100%, it will stop, n then nothing happens. If i change tab to another page, and then return to it, it will take me back to the main page where you enter your phone number. It worked last night, but not now.

      I just did the test on both speedtest.net and speed.io and both had the results of 1215kbps.

      Why am i only getting 1215kbps when my router stats say 2240kbps?
