Hi I have just done a Bt speed test and it seemed to jump at 80% but then carried on this is mine Steve's Sky Connect speedtest blog you have already done Bt speed tests so just try again could be Bt speed tester playing up
It takes 72hrs to resync so was the master socket in the hallway and did you remove the number 3 wire from the hallway

I just did the test on both speedtest.net and speed.io and both had the results of 1215kbps.
Why am i only getting 1215kbps when my router stats say 2240kbps?
The reason is speedtest.net is not very good you can do 3 tests and all would be different and speed.io can be better but the BT is what Sky will always ask you to do

Re: Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

Hi Steve. It seems i was having problems with my browser, Safari. I did the test again with Firefox and it worked. Here are the stats.....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
      Your DSL connection rate: 2016 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 785 kbps

That is ridiculous, I'm taking it that my line is being throttled? If so, what are the options i can take? Complain to sky? Change to 02 or talktalk?

I think i should be getting what I'm paying for!

Re: Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

I've just checked and exchange does of LLU:

      AOL
      02/Be
      Orange
      TalkTalk (CPW)
      Tiscali
      Tiscali TV

      What do you recommend?

Also if my line is only capable of say 2MB, is that the only amount I'm able to get?

Re: Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

Okay, now this is where i need things explained to me a little more. I just did another test, here are the results.....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
      Your DSL connection rate: 2016 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1091 kbps
      Time:02:02am

Now i tested it 2 hours after the traffic shaping has supposedly stopped. Why does it read that my actual IP throughput is 1091kbps, when my DSL connection rate is 2016kbps. Why can't i achieve the full 2016kbps?

Also why does my profile still say 1500kbps?

      It's all a bit confusing.

Re: Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

Have a look it also explains profiles
Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained
Here`s something I found that you could do
The fact that your Profile is increasing probably means the BT system found a fault on your line and reduced the profile accordingly. It is now bringing it back up and if you stay stable it will rise again. Try rebooting your router by pulling the power plug out for a couple of minutes and put it in again. This should increase your sync speed and in turn your Profile.

I'd recommend O2, also I think your line may be capable of more than 2mb, 3 or possibly 4mb. Use the O2 availability checker to find out what they estimate.

That is the way BTMax works. Unfortunately you seem to be syncing just below the rate required to give you a Profile of 2Mbs. Have a look at this article by Plusnet. This is the same package as you are on with Sky, in particular the MSR and Bras Profile.-

      Advanced Guide to Broadband Max

You would probably get a better speed from O2, they seem to be the best of what you have available.

Re: Really unhappy with my internet speed :(

@ neilmcl: I've checked the the O2 availability checker, and it says i'd be capable of up to 2MB, which isn't really that much of an improvement. The thing that is winding me up, is that my nan lives half a mile down the road, and she is capable of up to 18MB.

@ Isitme: Thanks, i will have a read through.

I've just rang up Sky, and got through to the next level tech help. They ran a few tests and they seem to think the problem is my noise margin. They have opened a case with BT, which they will deal with, and Sky will get back to me within the next 48 hours. I'll just have to wait and see to see if anything gets done about it.

I don't think I'm going to be getting anything faster. I live 2.2 miles from the exchange, which isn't helping. I'm just a little disappointed.

I want 20MB broadband! I guess i will be moving to the city then
