      Line testing in progress...

      Line testing in progress:

I logged on to the "mysky" page to find my line is in testing. I used to be on a fixed profile of 1.8mbit, interleaved, on adsl1. I pay for the max/unlimited package. My SNR on this speed was a constant 16db, which would drop to 12db in the evenings.

Here are my line stats as of today:

Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 646 Kbps, Downstream rate = 1020 Kbps
      Link Power State: L0
      Mode: ADSL2
      Channel: Fast
      Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
      Line Status: No Defect
      Training Status: Showtime
      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 6.3 11.0
      Attn(dB): 62.0 38.7
      Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.8
      Max(Kbps): 2724 744
      Rate (Kbps): 1020 646
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, the Pwr on the downstream has been decreased, reducing the Snr and hence my connection speed.

My pings are down to 25-30ms though, which is much better than when I was on the interleave service.

Do I need to contact sky to get them to increase the power on the downstream? Or is this just a testing phase of the line, to see how it performs under a low power mode?

      Thanks.

Reducing the SNR should in fact increase your connection speed.

However, like many others you are now on ADSL2+ and with your long line, it is struggling to cope. If you had a noise margin of 12/16dbs previously, this means your line was capped to stabilise it and the problem is being magnified with ADSL2+.

You can either wait out the testing in the hope that it improves, which is very unlikely, or call Sky and ask them to take DLM and ADSL2+ off your line and return you to your original mode.

Note that although your stats show ADSL2, this is thought to be a bug in the router which appears now and again. Sky do not use this mode.
