Router stats - how are they?

      Hello people,

I find this site very usefull for finding out whats going on in the world of Sky and often have a look to see whats happerning with Sky.

Having now said hello I have been wondering how my stats stack up, I live in the next street (paralell on opposite side of road) to the exchange so I'm happy with what I get, just wondering if my line and speed are what they should be.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 3 db
Noise Margin 13 db 14 db

I have taken these from the test socket before and there is no diffrence.

They look fine for what is still a 16mb capped line! when you get moved or rather go through the DLM process then you should be well into the 18mb area
I am sure some will be long with a more technical post, or maybe even wildly different. But that's my theory.

If you external line is good and your internal wiring is as good as it can be then you should easily get the full 20Mb, you must live in the exchange with those stats.

No just about 200m behind it.

Thanks thats what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

What is a good (and bad) noise margin range to be in?

SNR good range the higher the better, sky default is 6.9 I think but yours at 13db up is excellent. Here stability is key.

Yep very stable line never changes apart from once every while the noise margin goes from 12 to 13 or vice versis.

Just Google Earthed it out of intrest and I am 50m to the exhanges car park and 70m to the building - I wonder if will they build an extention?

Re: Router stats - how are they?

I take it from todays stats that DLM has started,

Wonder why my download hasn't changed or is it to early?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 874 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 3 db
Noise Margin 12 db 8 db

Edit: just noticed the drop in the noise margin, why has this happened, any ideas?

Noise margins vary throughout the day. In fact they vary from second to second. You have not much to worry about, but make sure all your phone sockets that are in use have filters plugged into them. If you do not get the full 20Mb up, 1.3Mb down, you need to check your internal wiring. If you have extensions it may pay you to fit a filtered faceplate on the master socket and use it for your router.

      Noise margin down to 6db,

Previously my noise margin only ever changed by 1db and that was only every once in a while.

No extentions to worry about just the 1 master.
