Very fast speed , but can go faster.

I have signed up to the 20 MB Package and connect at 17469 kbps.
My Line Attenuation is 19 db and Noise Margin is 8 db. They have confirmed that my line can handle around 22 mb so why is it that they cannnot get a stable connection at any higher speeds.
I download at bang on 2.0 MBps using Giganews which works out at a 16.2 Mbps connection. I know this is a good speed but if i am paying for 20 MB why cant i get it.

      Many thanks.

Try connecting to the test socket if you have one, link below for details in sig.
If you have extensions it can cause problems try test socket then post stats again.

Re: Very fast speed , but can go faster.

Thanks for the post. I am already in the test socket and was getting faster speeds with Bulldog 16 mb broadband Using the same filter and with the same phone going into it.
I have spoke to the people who set up the broadband and although they were very helpfull but they could not get the connection to stay stable at anything over 17.5mb. I am OK with the service as i am paying the same as Bulldog and getting Sky + into the bargin. But it just seems strange that they have admited that i my line can get the full 20MB speed but they are unable to do it at their end.

You are paying for Up to 20Mb, not 20Mb. Many who are paying the same as you only get one tenth your speed.

they could not get the connection to stay stable at anything over 17.5mb.
If you are in your Test socket, this probably means you have a fault on your external line. What like is your voice line, any noise on it that should not be there? If there is, then getting that fixed is the only way you will get more broadband speed. With the speed you are getting Sky are unlikely to do anything about your line.

Re: Very fast speed , but can go faster.

As i mentioned before, they have said that my line will support 22 mb connection speeds at the moment,so all this UPTO 20MB that they say should be of no concern. I know it will go faster as when i was on bulldog my download speed through Giganews was about 2.2 Mbs.
I know that i am getting alot faster speeds than most people but if they advertise that you can get upto 20 MB and my line will support over that speed then i should be able to get what i pay for.
There is no noise on the line and I dont think that there any errors on the line as the BT guy who came round sais the line was perfect.

Who said that? You would have to have an exceptionally good line to get 22Mb with an attenuation of 19. What does it say that on the Broadband details on your MySky page?

Post your stats from the Test socket, we will see if you are likely to get more.

my Sky still states that the speed that i can get is only 4 MB and that i am now getting 10 Mb connection which is wrong .

The people who told me that the line could support 22 mb were the team who set up your broadband , cant remember what they are called. the women who i spoke to was updating the speed in real time as i watched my router go on and off and the speed changed on the router page.
For some reason she said that she could not get it to go higher than the connected speed but the line test said that it would support 22 mb

Re: Very fast speed , but can go faster.

You must have some noise on the line then, if they said that your line can handle that speed on the line test.
If you are not sure if you have connected to the test socket the link below in the sig will give details
