Did the test and here is result. Dont get me wrong i am not knocking the service from sky its sound, it is just that i am using the same line as before and am connecting at a higher speed but the download speeds are slightly slower. I am using the test socket also.
Could it be the router? dont know but all i know is that 3 weeks ago the speeds were faster on 16 mb broadband and now i am connecting at 17.5 but they are not as fast.

sky don't match the routers to the exchange equipment, I have and my speed has gone up by 2Mb from what it was before, the sky routers do hold your connection back, mostly in the upstream area.

I know it will go faster as when i was on bulldog my download speed through Giganews was about 2.2 Mbs.
Are you sure you were not on an up to 24Mb with Bulldog? 2.2MB/s is actually a download speed of 18450kbps or 18.45Mbps. This would require a connection speed of 21Mb/s.

Your present sync of 17469 should give a download, allowing for overheads, of about 15750 or 1.9MB/s.

Andy is correct in what he says, certain routers under-perform with Sky, he and some others have proved this.

Re: Very fast speed , but can go faster.

thanks for the posts lads, but bulldog never went to 24mb ,16 was their fastest and has since been bought out by pipex and they only continue to offer this service to previous bulldog members.i have uploaded a screen grab to show the speed i am getting with giganews at the moment, and this speed is constant.
It is a bit crap that they will not let people use their own routers.
I might try to get hold of them again and ask if there is a problem with my line that is stopping them from connecting me at higher speeds
