      Very slow speed in Mansfield

Hi, I've had sky broadband base for the last few years and my download speed has been around 900kbps which was adequate for my needs.
A few days ago my router would not connect and after about a day and a half I phoned sky.

I had already tried pluging into the master socket with no success but after being passed to three different departments the sky technician informed me that they had been doing some work either at the Mansfield exchange or elsewhere (something to do with swapping over from BT equipment to their own) which affected my service and asked me to try the master socket again.

This time the router connected and I was advised to look at my internal phone extensions.

My problem now is that my download speed is only 127kbps and upload speed is only 29kbps no matter whether I use the master socket or an extension.
It has been like this for two days.

Could anyone please advise if this is happening to anyone else or has sky slowed me down to enable my router to connect.

Thanks in advance for any help, Jeff

You have been fed a pack of bullpoo.

Have you tried the TEST socket, the one behind the master faceplate? if you have and this is still the best you can get you need to ring Sky again.

I am inclined to think like Smithy, but post your stats from the normal position and from your Test socket, link below and let us have a look.

Re: Very slow speed in Mansfield

Hi, Thanks very much for your help, when you say post my stats I mistakenly posted my router status here so I have now removed it and posted the correct info in a later reply.

      Further info which may help----

I also used to loose my connection when a motorised treadmill was in use in my garage but I knew that large motors can cause this.
The only other thing I should add is that on the same day I lost my broadband, the electricity board changed my meter from an old disc type one to a modern digital one. This is also in the garage but I don't think it gives out any RF signals that could interfere.

I have also noticed that my upload speed has altered to 40kbps

      Thanks.

Log into the router again and click the "show statistics" button at the bottom of the page, copy & paste here.

Re: Very slow speed in Mansfield

You are another one of the unfortunates who have been put on ADSL2+ with a line that cannot handle it. Phone Sky and ask them to take ADSL2+ of your line and put you back on G.DMT. Getting past Tier 1 will be the biggest hurdle, some there go strictly by the book and do not know the difference between the 2 modes. Try to get put through to CST who will understand the problem. If the agent refuses to put you through ask to speak to his manager or team leader, most of them will understand and put you through.

Phone after 10.30 tonight and you will have a good chance of getting action.

Re: Very slow speed in Mansfield

      Hi, Thanks for the info.
I've been trying all weekend to ring sky and finally got through Monday morning.

After 20 minutes on phone, being passed on to the 2nd person and explaining what I had been told on this forum, they confirmed that this had indeed happened on the day I lost my service. They also told me that my connection had been restricted to 127kbps for reasons unknown.

However they also told me that they could not get through to CST as they are very busy (I'm not surprised if this has happened to a great many people), gave me a case number and said they will sort it & get CST to ring back within 24 hours.

Well that was four hours ago and I'm still downloading at 127kbps.

Thanks again for all your help and I will eagerly await Sky's phone call. (Not holding my breath though)

      Cheers, Jeff.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the phone call but usually the work is carried out. You will know it has when your router stats show a better speed again.
