Question How do my router Statistics look ?

      Hello,

      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 7616
      UpStream Connection Speed 448
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 23.0 db

      Channel 1

      Firmware Version 1.9Sky (sagam router)

How do the above settings look ? good or bad ? anything i can alter to get better performace ???

The router is not plugged into the master socket at the mo, could this help ? do people use the test socket all the time ???

Been having problems with my pings in games and from a call to sky support lastnight they are changing the max delay or something to fast path if that makes any sense, will take a few days. Pings in games at the moment range from 90 to 130 ! what to do everything possible to get them below 50.

Any advice would be great thanks

      Thanks Ben

Re: How do my router Statistics look ?

First your speed looks quite good, but your SNR could be higher, try the test socket details in link below in sig.

Alot of people use a filtered faceplate if they have any extensions this takes away the need for microfilters, then you would have a dedicated extension running to your router, normally cat5e is used as this gives the best performance, closest to the test socket results that it can be.

Or if you don't want to use a filtered faceplate make sure that the ring wire going to terminal 3 on the master faceplate is disconnected, this will give same affect, if not as good as a filtered faceplate would.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, but what is SNR and why could it be higher what does it do ?

Will try the test socket thanks.

Can u leave the router plugged into the test socket all the time ?

Ben, as you are on connect, you are within a few hundred k of the max speed anyway, a LOT of people have probs with pings on connect. If you are into gaming, it's REALLY not the product for you due to the limits imposed., and the traffic shaping etc - Have a search....

BT do this, not Sky and unless your router is syncing at maximum they will not do it.

I would advise you to plug into your test socket and see if you can get a sync up around 8000. Your low noise margin is not helping but this will probably increase in the Test socket.

Re: How do my router Statistics look ?

Thanks for the info and replys.

Just plugged the router into the test socket heres the results,

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 7616
      UpStream Connection Speed 448
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 15.0 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 24.0 db

There is nothing else plugged into any of the telephone plugs in the house, just the router into the test socket with a filter.

Are the test socket results any better ?

      Thanks Ben

Re: How do my router Statistics look ?

Yes they are, your attenuation has reduced and your noise margin has risen which means that you have more margin for better speed.

If you leave it like this for a few days, the BT RAMBO system should see it and re-profile the line, you may want to reboot the router now and again in the morning.

You should also get a filtered faceplate to keep these stats good.

Re: How do my router Statistics look ?

The drop in attenuation is quite a surprise. You don't normally see this unless your internal wiring was very bad. The low rise in noise margin suggests its not hat bad! Did you check that all your extensions are dead? You don't have an alarm wired into the phone do you?

I would power cycle the router to force a resync with the exchange. Pull the power plug out for a few minutes then put it in again. If your sync speed does not rise, wait an hour then try it again.

As Smithy says, get yourself a filtered faceplate and this will solve most of your problems. With you attenuation you should be syncing quite easily at the maximum.

This is the one I use -
XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate - ADSL Nation

They are very easy to fit. Order a disposable IDC tool when you order it, you need it to refit the wires properly. They don't cost a lot.
