With a long line like this there is not any room for poor connections/worn sockets. If i were you I would replace the master socket with a new one (you'er not supposed to do this but if you make a good job, thats fine) and try and do away with whatever that small box is. Could you post a photo of it?

      Well I would.

      (1) Remove the box and move the master to where it was. Connect the master to the cable, orange to B white to A.

      (2) Keep the router as close as possible to the master socket, and use Network cable to connect to the PC

      (3) I'd go for a filter faceplate as well.

I would advise you to take Brian's advice, he is the phone guru. But you have to understand that due to the length of your line, you are never going to get much speed.

As Brian says give it some time to settle. If your noise margin stays at 8 or above, it may be worthwhile booting your router a couple of times. If the download stays at 1024, give Sky a ring and ask them if they can increase your speed. 1024 looks like a capped speed and not one that would normally get. I would not normally advise it as you are not likely to get a great deal more, but your speed is so low every kilobit counts.

Re: help me, real slow internet

If you are still in the Test socket it looks like there is a problem with your external line. Keep an eye on the noise margin and if it rises above 8dbs, reboot your router and you should connect faster.

I have not read through the thread again, but have you tested your phone line for noise. If not plug a corded phone into the test socket on its own, no filter, dial 1 digit and listen.

Re: help me, real slow internet

still having issues and decided to ring sky again, they again increased the speed at whilst i was on the phone to them it was stable and went upto 1200kbps, not great but better then 512 which is what im getting now.

As soon as they hang up, modem goes off and speed drops back o 512, thought this was strange so rang again and exactly the same happened again, any ideas?

got put through to cst or something and they are sending me a new router to try and if no joy, they are ringing me saturday to see how the new router is going, if no joy they said they will arrange for bt open reach to check internal/external wiring and other things
