Would 02 or be internet be faster than sky for me?

      hi

Thanks for taking time to look at most post i have a general enquiry.

Would 02 or Be broadband offer me faster speeds than my current line i currently get 5.5meg and live 3km from my exchange and have no obvious faults on my line?

Just out of all my friends even in the same street not as mine but friends who live in the same street as eachother tend to get twice the speed people who have sky get next door.

Please post your current router stats.

I was activated today and it seems that O2 are not as conservative as Sky when it comes to configuring your connection. I'm currently achieving 6.5mbps/1mbps (d/u) on O2 whereas I only got 5.5mbps/0.4mbps on Sky.

It's too early to tell how stable the connection will be though as they also have a DLM process to go through.

Hi no one can tell you where to go but Skyuser sister site O2 has a forum O2User - Unofficial help and support for O2 if you want to have a look and see what is said on there also there is quite a few of O2 users on Skyuser maybe more O2 users might be able to give you more information and as long as you can get LLU. I think O2 use a lower default noise margin than Sky, so that may account for some speed increase, but not a lot. As both use the same technology there should be little difference. Of course O2 may have better exchange equipment than Sky, who may have used lower cost equipment to enable them to put as many exchanges on line as quickly and cheaply as possible.

I'd agree, it looks like the target SNR for O2 is around 6db, maybe a tad lower as opposed to the 6.9db of Sky but as you say it doesn't amount to a lot.

Re: Would 02 or be internet be faster than sky for me?

I've just shipped out to O2 (and I was with them before coming to Sky, well BE at least).

When I was with BE i had 5mb Sync.
When I was with Sky , it started at 4 and dropped to 3mb Synch after DLM etc.
Now I'm back with O2 I'm at 5.7mb Synch although still in DLM period so I expect it to drop to about 5mb one done.

In a word yes you will get more with BE. I suppose it all depends on line quality but my SNR with O2 is 6, with Sky it was 9+. That's a big difference at low speeds/quality.
