Question High Noise Margin ... but slow connection! .. DLM?

      Hi,

Last week moved from Mid (everyday.. funny!) to unlimited. Since then I guess DLM has been running.

The problem: the connection hasn't been dropped but it has slowed a lot....

      day 1: ~4 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l
      day 2: ~8 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l
      day 3: ~8 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l
      day 4: ~6 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l
      day 5: ~3 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l
      day 6: ~3 Mbits d/l ~760Kbits u/l

      Before move (attn:34db (d/l) noise : 7-10db (d/l))
      8Mbits d/l 416 Kbits u/l

After the switch the noise margin has not been below 14.5 db (d/l) and is currently sitting at 26 db. Is DLM going wrong?

      Any ideas?

You could try rebooting the router.
Also if you have win XP or lower you could try Dr TCP, link below.

Have re-booted the router before but sync speeds always stay the same. The sync speed only changes at 3am... when the connection resets itself!

Have previously run TCP optimiser but not sure that will change the sync speed?

      thanks for the ideas though

DLM is probabl seeing something that's causing it to drop speed...only CST'll be able to tell you what...

I am really hoping that's not true! Should I wait until DLM has finished and how do I know when it's finished... before the dreaded call to sky...

Better let DLM run its course, keep your router connected and so that it can resync each night. Don't reboot it yourself. When it completes if you are not happy, phone Sky for a manual configuration.

TCPO will not help, but if you have not already done so make sure your wiring is right up to scratch. Plug into the Test socket if you have one. If you noise margin increases by much it means your internal wiring is at fault.

Re: High Noise Margin ... but slow connection! .. DLM?

Thanks for that. I have only actually rebooted router twice once at the start (cos sky told me to!) and once when it hung the other day. So I hope DLM doesnt get moody because of that!

On the wiring front... Had another problem a month or so ago ... so got BT checked the line recently and the router plugs directly into the master socket with only a cordless phone system. The test socket was used and compared to the master socket and the noise stats were the same. And tried all the filters all ok! (that problem turned out to be a failing wireless adaptor)... So hopefully the wiring is still fine...
