      Connection problem

      Hi

I'm currently helping my grandparents set up their connection, however this is what is currently being displayed

      System Up Time: 0:03:57

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      LAN 1740 1604 0 0 0 0:03:57
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:03:29
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed kbps kbps
      Line Attenuation db db
      Noise Margin db db

      Poll Interval: 5 (secs)

Ive been watching this on and off for thel ast few hours and it is stable, it hasn't moved -+2db on both line attentuation and noise margin.

Is this right? It keeps disconnecting after 1-5 minuntes of use like the signal is always being disturbed. Can you advise on what I do now?

      Cheers, Luke.

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

Your stats show that you are not connected to the WAN(internet) that is about all. It does not tell us much really, it might not even be plugged into the phone line. You have to display connected stats showing speed/attenuation/noise margin to get anything out of them.

Click the Sky Test button and see what that returns.

A noise margin of 24-25 does not suggest a connection that is liable to drop, try to post the full stats.

You have plugged the filter directly into the phone socket and are using the supplied cables to connect the router. Make sure that everything plugged into the phone runs through a filter.

Hi again, Yes everything is filtered and connected properly, Iv'e al that more than enough times before, I cant post any stats currently as i'm not at their house any more.

Its using all the default cables, minimal length etc aswell. Tried 2 other routers and various other cables, isn't solving the problem, and Sky's useless customer service insist there is nothing wrong with the line.

With a noise margin of 24.6, when they test it, they are probably correct. The only thing that could cause the connection to drop would be a complete break in the phone line. Rather like what you would get if you pulled the plug out of the phone socket. If you have tried other routers and get the same result, it is really puzzling. If you have a router that will run Router Stats Lite, you could try downloading and installing that. See if it gives any clue as to what is happening. I don't think the Sky Sagem is compatible, but most others are, including the Sky Netgears. You will get it here -
