    Sky Connect constantly slow, might be my phone line??

      Sky Connect constantly slow, might be my phone line??

      Hey guys,

      would appreciate any help you can give... since the last couple of weeks my Connect broadband has turned ridiculously slow! Like, sub-512k all the time.

      From what I've researched, it seems Sky only throttle at certain times but mine is always bad.

      Back in the day when I first checked my line it said I was capable of receiving up to 3.5MB, and I've always been around 2MB which I'm satisfied with. But now when I do these online line tests they say my line can't handle any more than 512kb and that the line from my exchange (Bagshot) has -75dB loss, which I'm assuming is poor.

      So my question is, have these speed tests started to fail because I'm being throttled, or has my actual line degraded? Should I call Sky or BT?

      Any info much appreciated!

      There is alot of threads on this forum in relation to Sky Connect, after 5pm you can be subject to port throttling and there isnt anything SKY can do about it.

      Hi you need to do Bt speed test Plus Do you know That Sky T & Cs states that Between 4pm until Midnight The Sky Connect Package is Traffic Shaped if you are lucky. But it can happen any time

      Your exchange, Bagshot, has O2 available, you would do well to consider a move to them.

      well, yes they can...buy more capacity from BT!!
      Be careful, they might want you to take a pay cut so they can afford it.

      Yes, although do you have any idea how much it costs to get data from another part of the country? SKY / Easynet / BT get most of their Bandwidth from the EU then it is filtered into the Uk, the LINX exchange in London is were most of it is housed, from there it gets filtered out to ISP's. An OC-48 line would cost on average per month about 20,000 do you really believe SKY would pay this for the small amount of people that are offnet? I really dont think so.

      It depends on what you call a small amount the thing is if Sky looked at exchanges with 25,000 plus domestic not counting any none domestic surely that is worth while. I wonder how many off net Customers Sky have. I suppose you could find out on this link BSkyB Corporate | Home

      the exclamation marks at the end of my statement reflected the jokiness of it - I know full well how much it costs Sky to buy the capacity from BT, and if it ever does increase then the price of Connect would have to go up with it...
