New to sky connect any chance of some advice?

Hi everyone i have been using sky connect for about 2 days now at 1st i was very happy but now im getting annoyed with the very slow speed in the evening! Im told my line supports up to 3 mb im happy with that, during the day i logged into my sky router and checked my bb speed it said the down stream was 3774kbps and the upstream was 448kpbs.

I have now just ran a btspeed tester the time was 2200 and these are my results

      Your DSL connection rate: 3744 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 704 kbps

      My router statistics are saying

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed-
      Downstream 3744
      Upstream kbps 448 kbps

Think i will run a test using the btspeed tester in the morning and see how it compares to the 1 i just did, but i would just like someones opinion on my resutls from tonight

      many thanks

Hi I hate to be the bearer of bad news but did you look at the T & Cs The connect package is being Traffic Shaped from 4 or 5pm till Midnight or if you are unlucky speeds back to normal about 2am

Your line will be going through a testing phase with the BT equipment. You will notice great variances in your speed for about the first 7-10 days.

The first day you may have experienced the fastest speed possible and the second day the slowest speed with no errors.

BT will "play about" with your line to find the best speed for it and then set it at that.

Don't switch off or reboot the router. This can be seen as a dropped line by the system and will then take longer to find the correct speed.

When I say BT I mean Openreach.

The connect package is completely different the training period is done by Random Adaptive Management Box RAMBo for short. For LLU Dynamic Line Management DLM. The op will see differences at peak times because of the Traffic Shaping When I say peak times if he is lucky the only normal speed the op will get will be between 1am to 7:30 9:45 to 11:30 the rest of the time connect is managed. Connect is over subscribed plus now schools, colleges, and universities. Are on holiday which means only normal speed time is 2am till 7am you only have to look at the amount of connect Threads not one saying how good the connect package is

You are still in your cooling off period, use it and leave, you will see nothing but bad speeds from the Connect package.

Have you checked for any other LLU supplirs on your exchange, O2 and Be are very good.

My sky connect was activated on the 3rd of this month do you think i will get away with stopping it as i have not had it that long? was thinking of ringing them up and playing dum saying my broadband just wont work!

looked up your exchange, you have very little that benefits you, TalkTalk and orange both do LLU, you are not in a virgin media area either.

I would suggest maybe looking into another BT Based provider

      IDnet, ADSL24, Aquiss, Newnet.. etc

Re: New to sky connect any chance of some advice?

I was under the impression that RAMBo still needed to do line testing to get the BRAS profile etc on the broadband line.

See here : Stuck BRAS profile ...

Re: New to sky connect any chance of some advice?

      newbuilder - you're right...steve is wrong...

yes the traffic shaping will affect it but the day time speed variance is down to the training period as it's a new connection...
