This is a discussion on Downstream dropped rapidly within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I've done a quick google but not found what I'm after so I was hoping someone more knowledgable could help ...

      Downstream dropped rapidly

I've done a quick google but not found what I'm after so I was hoping someone more knowledgable could help

      My routers stats are...

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1404 kbps 767 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 18.7 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 15.9 db

I feel like a bit of an idiot, I've been assuming the slow speeds I'd had for the past week were because of a housemate torrenting.

I know that the router used to sync at around 10000kbps and it has suddenly (in the past week) dropped to 1404 with no changes to the line. As far as I can tell, my noise margin and attenuation are fine - so what could be the issue?

Will ringing Sky fix it? I don't fancy a battle with technical support

      Thanks!!

Looks like there is alot of noise on your line, connect to the test socket if you have one and post the stats again, see like below (Test socket)

Have you checked if your line is being trained? It does look like you have noise problems, it should be up around 10-12mbps, as you had before. Stats from the Test socket as requested.

      Re: Downstream dropped rapidly

I've realised exactly what was wrong, I'd connected the line the wrong way round (extension > microfilter rather than microfilter > extension) when I moved it a week ago, swapped it back round, rebooted the router and now syncing at 10kbps, and getting a nice 1mb download speed

      Thanks for the help anyway!

They do say the part that goes wrong most often is the bit between the keyboard and the chair.
