      Slowness Problem

I Posted this in the Slow Page thread but was told to repost it as prob get lost in there

      Exchange:YORK
      Broadband Sky Max
      Router: Netgear DG834GT
      IP: 90.206.77.XXXX

Spoke to Tier 1 - Didnt help but did say Speed was 6.2mb but line can only handle 4.5 so they put me through to Tier 2 who changed lots of settings but websites still slow after changing speed and line code etc....eventually Escalated it after saying could be my PC.

Its a newly built PC by me and nothing on it causing this , tried my laptop and same problems so it deff the net.

I tried the SKY test and it came back with Error 300 and Error 200 and CHAP could not authenticate even though i was connected to net and worked slowly.

They kept spewing some rubbish about the errors and said i will get a call within 24 hrs to say fixed... my net is now at 2.4mb

Im not convinced they know what theyre doing...

      Re: Slowness Problem

Well you need to post stats from the router, the ones you have posted tell us nothing about the line conditions. There is a link over there <<< about it. We need attenutation and SNR plus the speeds.
Also if your line is generating errors that will be why it's slow, how are you connected onto the line, how many sockets in the house, how many in use, how many filters in use and have you got a test socket (also a link over there <<<< about that)?

      Re: Slowness Problem

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2496 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 25.0 db 13.0 db

Ive had the same set up for years with 4 sockets with micro filters on and an telephone extention cable to back room with the router connected to it and never had a problem. Sky always thinks it wont work but it does and the problem always "just " fixes itself when sky have fiddled with something.

My speed is normally 4.5mb +

If you have an NTE5 split face master socket, then
Go directly to the master socket and connect router to the test plug behind the face plate via a filter. then take your stats from there. By doing so eliminates all other sockets and extension for the loop thus ruling out any faults on the other sockets or extensions.

      no hardwired into the router.

I will have to boot up my laptop and move my router downstairs to be able to check settings as i dont have a wireless card in PC

      Re: Slowness Problem

The line is very heavily capped. Why Sky do this without trying to find the cause is beyond me.

I doubt if there will be much difference in the test socket, but it is worth a try.

      Re: Slowness Problem

I'm assuming theyve capped it while theyre working on it as my ping has gone up from 45 to over 100 when i play online games

      Re: Slowness Problem

They cap it and increase your Max Delay which is why your ping has increased.

      Re: Slowness Problem

well still not callback or working properly and high ping still.

Rang Sky tech again but the initial guy couldnt understand english or speak english very well and after arguing with him saying ive already spoke to Tier 2 and they have escalated it he put me in a queue for Tier 2 who can help????

They really need to sort their Tech Support out as its abismal.
