      Drop in speed

Hello good people of Sky User!

This is my first post here and I hope to get some help.

A few months back we switched from our BT 2.2mb connection to a nice new Sky 8mb. On the first day of connection with my BT router still connected we where getting a respectable 6mb (or there about) I wasn't expecting to get the full 8mb because allot of places in Northern Ireland don't support it. Decided to switch to the new Sagem Sky router and after doing another speed test it checked back with around a 4mb download speed, still pretty decent so I was happy enough.

Few months on and now I'm hitting a whopping 0.58mb connection. It really is ridiculous. The wireless on the Sagem router has pretty crap signal too. We ourselves haven't changed anything in the house i.e no micro filters have been removed from the the phone lines. Everything is how it was on day one when we got good speeds.

I've looked for the router software but alas my parents through out the box and its contents. (It was sitting out for more than 5 minutes, so off to the bin it went)

If anyone has any idea as to why the speed would decrease so severely then I'd appreciate to hear from you. I should also note that I can no longer get the computer to pick up the router when connected via Ethernet.

Again any help would be much appreciated.

      Thanks

Got any ideas why the router doesn't connect to the computer via ethernet?

Yes if you are only paying 5.00 and like to stay up and use it through the night when speeds are normal the lowest speed I have seen a connect Customer have is 1kbps on Throttled Sky Connect connection - Options? post 34. A couple of links you might find interesting
and to finish of some tests to show how much the speeds can vary

      Re: Drop in speed

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. From Ballymena in Northern Ireland and have had Sky Unlimited for a few months now. Starting the end of last week my internet has hit a severe wall when it comes to playing online games (from a nice 4mb connection down to about 500k now).

Is there some form of update going on with the ADSL lines in Northern Ireland? or has the luck of the Irish finally run out on us two?

EDIT: I'm the same, have not changed any internal wiring since we moved in about a year ago, when we got the net put in it was fine, but since last week it has not been fine.
