      Slow speeds on web/WoW

I've been getting really slow pings in WoW and semi-frequent disconnections... Speedtests give me about 800kbps (the upload is fine, 380kbps or so) and my router stats are:

      Code:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7200 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 18.0 db
I've phoned up and they say because my Router's getting 7.2Mbps then I should be happy with the speed I'm getting. Only problem is none of the three laptops currently present in the house are getting that; they're getting 800Kbps as above! I'm on hold to Tier 2 sky help after an hour with the person who was inches away from demanding I run a full anti-virus scan with her present on the phone.

edit - Tier 2 god bless them agree wholeheartedly that the line's shafted after running the speedtest, so I'm gonna run a few more tests tonight and tomorrow and get back to them. In future I wonder if there's a quicker way to bypass the rather useless Tier 1 who are limited to making sure Granny's got the router plugged in and not the kettle?

there's 1. no tier 2 anymore, and hasn't been for years, and 2. nothing that can be done if the speed is only slow now...is it ok during off-peak (midnight-5pm-ish)? if so, it's just Sky's traffic shaping that's the cause and there's nothing Sky nor BT can do (bar Sky spending more on capacity)...

      Re: Slow speeds on web/WoW

Are you on connect as your profile states?

If you are then your screwed. Connect is over capacity which means that during peak hours (5pm-midnight) your speeds may be reduced to a crawl, even out of those hours you will get problems especially now during the school holidays.

There is currently only one solution, that is to move ISP's, Sky may have you jump through a few hoops hoping that you get bored and drop it but there is nothing they can do without spending 's buying more capacity (which they won't).

! bugger beaten to it by IANTE (who works for Sky CST by the way so he should know) !

      Re: Slow speeds on web/WoW

Looks like it's that option, possibly. I did a speedtest this morning and it was just shy of 6Mbps so I'm happy with that. WoW seemed to be fine as well until about 20 minutes ago when the ping gradually increased up to a merry old 3280ms! The current (non-BT) Speedtest gives me:

I'm wondering if this should go in the Gaming forum now!
