      "Faster" broadband

I've been following the threads on here about the new "faster" broadband speeds people might be able to receive but haven't seen anyone with the same problem as I am having. Apologies if I have missed it and this has already been answered.

I'm on Max/Unlimited and as I live so far from the exchange I was never expecting to get great speeds and at 3072Kbps downstream and around 512Kbps upstream I was half satisfied as I was paying 10/month initially. I have carried out all the tests using the test socket, removed the ring wire and am also using an ADSL faceplate and no difference has been made to the statistics on my line. I'm at least 2.5 miles away from my exchange.

I received an email about "enjoy faster broadband at no extra cost" and knowing my connection statistics were poor I wasn't expecting any change. It seems I was wrong and instead of my line speed staying the same it has been dropped to 2MB/s. Needless to say I am quite annoyed as I experienced no problems with my previous speeds and my connection statistics were pretty much the same as below but with the noise margin at around 6db and I'm now paying 15/month for a speed 2/3rds of what I did have before this supposed "faster service" came in.

Is there anything I can do to try and rectify my problem? If I contacted Sky, can they increase my speed to what it was? Do I have a leg to stand on with cancelling the broadband early? I'm 7 months into a 12 month contract.

      Thanks in advance.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2041 kbps 542 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.0 db 38.2 db
Noise Margin 8.9 db 10.0 db

It may be that you have been started on DLM.
What does it say on broadband service details on your mysky account ?
If you have, leave your router connected all the time and wait till it has finished.
If it doesnt go back to what it was then you will need to contact Sky.

      Re: "Faster" broadband

I received the email on 22/07/2009 and my connection details on mysky says:

      Your connection details

Line connection testing completed on 22/07/2009
      Download Speed

Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to
      2.0Mb (2048Kb)
      Upload Speed

Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to
      0.8Mb (800Kb)

I did wonder if I was still on DLM as to get the email and the result to be completed all on the same day seemed too quick.

You may have been put on ADSL2 which doesn't like long lines, you need to ring CST and ask to be put back on GDMT.

      Re: "Faster" broadband

Well, he needs to call BB tech tier 1, do low speed troubleshooting (do yourself a favour here and change filter/ plug into test socket before calling) and then be passed to CST but yep looks like it will need manual intervention.

Thanks for the replies. You've confirmed what I thought already.

PaulSky is it the normal number to call to get in contact with BB Tech Tier 1?
