      Slow Up Speeds

for at least the past week i've been experiencing disastrous upload speeds. what used to sustain at 70 kB/s is now an irregular 10-25 kB/s. when i perform broadband speed tests i'm getting between 50-150Kbps. download speed is same as usual - up to 4000 in tests, never been more.

i've been in touch with sky and they're not interested since the router stat speeds are normal :-

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 13.0 db

i'm in kentish town, not quite 1km from the exchange, on the "unlimited" package. nothing has changed with my set up since starting with sky about a year ago. i was lumbered with a sagem f@ast router.

is anyone experiencing a similar problem, or have any suggestions as to what might be wrong ?

      thanks !

      Re: Slow Up Speeds

With your Line Attenuation i would expect a lot higher connection speed.

      Have a look on here

Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

Perhaps Isitme can take it from here ?

Looking at your attenuation of 29db you have quite alot of noise on the line, you should be syncing much higher.
You should try the test socket if you have one, link below in the sig then repost your stats.

      Re: Slow Up Speeds

ok. i turned everything off but my fastest macbook and did some more scientific testing. i did several spead tests for each situation. they're all pretty much in the same ballpark so i don't think my phone wiring or wireless cards are the problem, it's just very irregular.

      ...

wireless at side of router in normal position

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 13.0 db

      Download 3500-4200 Kbps
      Upload 114-375 Kbps

      ...

ethernet cable into router in normal position (airport off)

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 13.0 db

      Download 3800-4500 Kbps
      Upload 270-450 Kbps

      ...

wireless with router in test socket

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 14.0 db

      Download 4480-4530 Kbps
      Upload 120-310 Kbps

      ...

ethernet cable to router in test socket

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 14.0 db

      Download 4500-4550 Kbps
      Upload 54 / 149 / 274 Kbps

      Re: Slow Up Speeds

in the test socket - are the other sockets dead? if not, incorrect internal wiring...if they are, was it just filter into test socket with phone and router via Sky-supplied dsl cable?...

i'm not sure what you mean. there is only one socket on the master socket.

i took the faceplate off and plugged the filter/splitter into that. cable from modem socket to router adsl socket. ethernet cable from one of the yellow modem sockets to laptop.

i don't know which of my ethernet cables were supplied by sky, i just used the one i usually do when i need one. (it's yellow, in case that helps!)

      Re: Slow Up Speeds

when you expose the test socket, and other phone sockets (assuming you have them) should be disconnected as they run off the front panel...if they don't then they're incorrectly wired...
