      Cancelling Broadband Help

If I was to cancel my broadband with Sky and move to another company (cheaper and faster) will sky cut me off straight away?

I spoke with another company today and they told me they can't cut me off till 30 days after I cancel my contract or till the new line is about to be put in.

Sky have told me I will be cut off straight away, I can't seem to find anything in the TOS

Can someone shed some light on this for me.

You should not cancel, you should be requesting a MAC code, this is then given to the new ISP within 30 days, transfer to the new ISP should only take minutes on the day you are given.

I am surpeised the new ISP didn't tell you this.

Which ISP are you thinking of going to?

o2 did tell me to get the MAC key but what I am asking is Sky have told me if I get a MAC Key from them they will cut me off straight away, which is what I don't want to do.

If I ask for a MAC key is Sky allowed to cut me off straight away?

      Re: Cancelling Broadband Help

No, they are not allowed to cancel your service when you get a MAC code, this is valid for 30 days and just because you get one does not mean you are going to use it anyway.

Next time you ring and ask for a MAC code, if they say they will cancel tell them that you will contact OFCOM as that is a breach of the regulations, they have 5 days to supply it.

Get the MAC and use it!!!

      Re: Cancelling Broadband Help

A request for a MAC code IS NOT an automatic request to cancel it is simply an intention of notice that you may or may not move your service to another provider within 30 days. Sky should/does know this and their staff should know better. As the previous poster states, any mention of cancelling your service and you should state that you'll be taking this further with OFCOM.

although you can record the conversation, it can't be used without the consent of the agents you're recording...
