A few questions from a newbie to Sky

      Hi guys

I got connected to the mid package on the 6th. I have read quite a lot of posts on here and understood that the connection would be up and down for a few days while the DLM took place (i understand it is automatic?)

The page on the website seems to have been out of action since i joined, it has said since day 1 that line testing is not in progress, so have ignored that.

I just wondered if anyone knew when i could expect my connection to stabilise?
If i run a speedtest on speed.io i seem to be getting very varied results, but usually around the 4mb level, which im happy with, but sometimes down to less than 2mb. Upload is usually constant at around 550, but ping varies a lot, from 40 at best up to 90/100 or so at worst. Connections per minute around 800 at worst but today got up to about 1100.

I am connecting wirelessly to the laptop, so again i expect some variance, but my Xbox is wired to the router and the connection on that is defiinitely more unstable on SKy than it was with BT.

I am plugging the router into an extension in the lounge so i can hardwire my xbox. If i plug into the main socket the results are fairly similar, attenuation maybe 1 or 2 lower.

Sorry for the ramble but wanted to give as much info as possible.

As well as the stabilisation, i wondered about getting my ping down, i understand on here you can request Sky reduce your delay to 8 or something? Just wanted to check that was worthwhile if someone can have a look at my stats pls. Also does the connections per minute make much difference, at the bottom end with 800 or so is this a problem.

many thanks for any replies, and please let me know if I have missed any vital info.

      Anyway here are my stats

You could try Dr TCP, see link below. It doesn't work on vista/win7, if you have something like XP then try it, it should help.

Have you tried the speedtester on this forum? You should really being seeing a throughput speed of around 5.5Mbps.

Re: A few questions from a newbie to Sky

Are your speed tests being done by wireless? If so the speed you are seeing is quite normal. Wireless is seldom as fast as ethernet. If you have not done so, try a speedtest using ethernet.

If you are using ethernet, do you have any P2P software running, this includes torrents and iPlayers.
