    Just finished DLM and am unhappy

      Just finished DLM and am unhappy

      First post so please bear with me!

      I'm on Everyday & have just finished DLM today. Sky have said that my download connection has been set at up to 8 mb & download 0.6mb.

      During DLM I was seeing speeds of nearly 8 mb but today I've just got to 5mb.

      These are my router stats-

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 8190 kbps 606 kbps
      Line Attenuation 32.5 db 16.8 db
      Noise Margin 8.1 db 20.0 db

      Do you think there's any chance of getting better speeds? If not then so be it but if you think there's a chance what's the best course of action?

      I tried to take the front plate off to get at the test socket but couldn't get one of the screws to come off no matter hard I tried! So rather than force it I left it alone. No extension cables and a filter fitted at the main box.

      Any thoughts?

      are you connecting wireless or wired?

      You should try connecting to the test socket, see link below for details.
      You should be seeing a higher noise margin than you have at the moment, you should get the full 10Mb for the everyday package, if the noise margin increases in the test socket then check to make sure that the ring wire on terminal 3 is disconnected, check all phone sockets you have.

      chances are that's why you're having issues - try wired...

      What part of the OP's post did you have trouble getting to grips with? Oh must have been this bit "I tried to take the front plate off to get at the test socket but couldn't get one of the screws to come off no matter hard I tried!"

      Why should he be seeing a higher SNRM? Your assumption that pluging into the test socket will raise the SNRN is wrong. On the basis that the OP has no extensions.

      He is on everyday package, I was just pointing out that his noise margin is low for the speed he is connected and for attenuation, i would have thought the SNR would have been higher if i am wrong about this then i stand corrected.

      Just had a look at the stats I was getting when I was with Nildram at the end of June & I was getting speeds of around 7.2mb.

      Excuse my ignorance but why would my speeds be lower now I'm with Sky?

      Oh and I'll have another go with my screwdriver tomorrow!

      Can I ask.. this DLM is the initial test that takes place when you first connect right? After they finish they calculate the best speed to set you on correct?

      I have a question on this: Would it be better for me to connect directly to my test socket for this duration?

      At the moment its just new/upgraded connections, but it will be for all of us soon. Have a look at the Cable and faceplate section for tips on how to get the best out of your line, it is much better to do this now before DLM starts on your line.
