Cancelled Sky BB, do I have to send the router back?

So I've canceled my Sky BB, about 11 months in, so I've paid the full year, and I wanted to clarify what I should do with the Sky provided Netgear router.

I know its of no use to me now since its Sky BB locked I guess, but do I have to send it back to Sky now that I have canceled my broadband. I phoned Broadband support and the lady said I could post it back if I wanted, but I "don't have to send it back...".

Is that right? I would have thought Sky consider this their property and so I have to send it back once I stop using their BB service?

Can someone please clarify the facts here - frankly the support rep struggled a bit with her English and I wonder if this was a lost in translation situation.

      Many thanks.

The router belongs to you and not Sky.

You could connect it to your new router and use it as a hub or as already suggested, flash it and sell via ebay etc. If you do opt for the latter then ensure your Sky details have been erased just in case whoever buys it does something naughty.
If your details are still in it they may come knocking on your door.
