      Random disconnects concern

      Ello,

I posted this same question about a year ago and it drifted into the ether but now with the approaching possiblity of a faster service i thought i would ask again.

I have a Netgear DG934G (sky black router) with official firmware connected directly into my master socket, this has an ADSL nation XTE filtered faceplate connected. From this runs a cable to the sky+ box and a wireless phone in the living room (about 2.5 - 3 metres) and in the other direction runs a shielded RJ11 cable to the router (about 3 metres in the spare room).

The issue is that the connection drops once every day generally early morning and i cannot figure out why, at first i thought it maybe down to releasing the IP address but every day seems abit much once a week maybe.

I am at work at the mo but when i get in i share post some stats.

      Cheers in advance.

I did originally but it wasn't quite long enough and if memory serves had the same problem hence the upgraded one, do you suspect a dodgy cable then?

Can you post your router stats and compare these with what you're getting in the evening. It may be that you're getting noise on your line in the evening/early morning eventually causing your connection to drop.

      Re: Random disconnects concern

I'll post when i get in with stats (should be around 6pm) i must admit from looking at thes in the past they are normally quite stable with downstream attenuation at about 9-10, but any help in solving this mystery is gladly accepted.

      Re: Random disconnects concern

I wouldn't bother spending money on another cable yet until people have had a chance to see your router stats.

I don't believe there is any automatic mechanism to refresh your WAN IP from the Sky end.
I've had the same address since 28th April when I deliberately disconnected.

Your router log http://192.168.0.1/logs.html (admin/sky) should tell you the times you disconnect.

A set of router stats taken just before these times (assuming they are reasonably consistent from day to day) would be helpful.

You seem to have done everything right with the XTE.
I would hazard a guess that external noise on you line causes the noise margin to drop and you disconnect.
A slight capping of the download speed to allow an increased noise margin to allow for the external noise may be required.

That should in fact be http://192.168.0.1/sky_logs.html for the Sagem router.

You could also try downloading and running the latest version of RouterStats Lite so you can monitor your noise margin throughout the period it tends to disconnect.

Should be home in about an hour, don't know if it will help but my phone line is over head, and my distance to the exchange straight line is 368 metres about 549 by road (roughly)
