      Sagem connection problems AGAIN!

      I've been a Sky broadband customer for a couple of years and had nothing but problems.

      I currently have a Sagem (Black) router plugged directly via filter in to the BT master socket. The yellow ethernet cable direct to PC and obviously power cable to router.

      The problem I have is no connection at all. Most of the time the router displays 4 green lights and 1 red light, then changes to 2 green and one orange. In the past after about half hour it will connect but this time its been dead for 24hours.

      A few weeks ago when this happened I contacted the Sky help line, after being on the phone to Sky for an hour they advised me the router must have missed an update, and I need to locate the Sagem file on the Sky installation disc and reboot with that. This gave me an error message of ''impossible to find router''
      But Strangley as I was on the phone it suddenly started to work!

      Can anyone help this time, is the router at fault, or is it BT or is it Sky, if so what do I need to do or tell them to do?

      There may well be two faults here, and Sky are prob right in that the router has got part way through an update and then lost internet connection.
      First try a factory rest on the router. Dissconnect everthing on the router but the power supply and then hold in the reset button on the back for about 30 secs. Release the button and leave the router for a couple of mins.
      While the router is doing its thing, check the phone line for noise by connecting a normal phone at the test socket and dial a single digit, you should just hear a low hiss.
      Power down the router and reconnect everthing and post your stats.

      Thanks, but no change.

      Just got missus to do your reset (I'm at work), phone line is clear BT only fitted a new socket a few months ago.

      Router still the same 4 bottom green lights and the top red light, every so often they flash about a bit then change to two green.

      Will send stats if I find a hotspot when I get home. (Normally get a free weak wireless signal on laptop in bathroom!)

      Sounds like you need a new router, Phone Sky and tell them it is dead, no lights or anything. Have you a spare router you could try? you dont need a password or anything, it will sync with the exchange but you will not have internet access, it would show if the Sky one is defective or not.

      something the same happen to me, and sky sent out a brand new router as all indercations showed that the router was faulty. But when change just the router the same happen. So i then change just the power and Bang ! that worked..So try and change the power adaptor.

      I have got a brand new BT 2700HGV router which I believe is locked to BT but I will power it up and see if it will connect when I get home. I will also dig out my spare Sky power adaptor and try that.

      When I had problems once before Sky sent me out a new! router, well it had a red dot on the back, and my days as a senior satelitte engineer for Sky I knew it was grade B stock! and was D.O A !... Sky still up to their old tricks, they used to send us out on installs knowing full well the digi box was faulty and a service call would need to be booked. Anything to get the custom!

      All Sorted !!!

      I connected my BT 2700HGV and it jumped in to life!

      Using the password I previously extracted from my Sky Sagem the BT router is working great, double the wireless signal too!
