having said that, you've got a great line...
Oh right so it's the max delay that gives me a weird sync speed. I download at the full 1.6mb/sec so I think I might leave the max delay for a while, well at least until after the 20mb upgrade has been completed.

      They are both facts.
Isp's dont advertise their products as "upto whatever your line will support", this is usually found in the small print.
Isp's do advertise their products based on what their equipment is capable of, this is usually found at the top of the advert in large letters.
      Looks like marketing to me.
The fact is that they offer and advertise an "upto" service. Just because some people are too lazy/stupid to find out why it's an "upto" service isn't really their problem. On Sky's "Everyday" and "Unlimited" pages it clearly states "Up to 10/20Mb download speed (depending on location)". Whilst this is simplified should they really go into stating the minutiae of what effects synch speed?

      I certainly didnt imply that.

I dont disagree, my original post that you quoted was based on my opinion that Sky choose to use "upto 20mb" to advertise their product rather than "dependent on location" as the former obviously makes a more attractive marketing point.
I dont recall suggesting that Sky should state in their advertising all the factors that could effect the sync speed apart from the most obvious, which they do, so I am unsure why you are asking me that.

Sorry if I've misunderstood but Sky do state "upto" as well as "depending on location" on the main page describing their products. Take a look at:

      Sky.com - Sky Products>Broadband>Prices and Options>Sky Broadband Unlimited

Sure, marketing is a massive part in the f***ed world we live in and I despise Murdoch and all he spawns more than most, but, unless I've misunderstood, on this point Sky are being more honest then others.
