      Whats a fact ?
That its an upto 20mb service or that line sync is dependent on line length ?
      They are both facts.
Isp's dont advertise their products as "upto whatever your line will support", this is usually found in the small print.
Isp's do advertise their products based on what their equipment is capable of, this is usually found at the top of the advert in large letters.
      Looks like marketing to me.

Well I'm home from work and here are my official stats:

Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 db 9.1 db
Noise Margin 15.1 db 17.0 db

Weird to see someone else in the 16000's I thought Sky capped it at my line speed :P

you're line will be set to 16384 but as delays will be on 32s it shows sync as what you have...

having said that, you've got a great line...

You've answered your own question. Some people can get 20MB (and more), but not everyone. So they can't advertise "20MB broadband" but are being truthful in saying "up to 20MB broadband". YMMV and all that. Fact.

I'm getting 14MB at the moment because my router got rebooted or disconnected by me a couple of times during the DLM session. I should be good for 20MB but don't mind waiting for the next round of DLM to get it.

I dont think there will be a next round as such, unless you mean you were done in the trial, then you would be done again. The way I think it is going to work, IANTE may be able to advise different if I've got it wrong, is that there was a trial done a few months ago for certain existing customers. The latest dlm process is now being automatically applied to new customers as they join, and the existing customers will be rolled out in stages starting in August.
If this is the case and you have been "done" as it were, then you will have to call Sky to get them to alter the results that the dlm process has determined.

Great stats steveblue. You must really have a very exceptional line. Envy lol

As you can see from mine I don't despite all the work I have done at home I am still Fecked by BT out of my control.
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13077 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 16.1 db
Noise Margin 5.5 db 11.0 db

My sync is lower as I have pings set to 8ms for gaming. not for getting the low SNR 5.5db @9.o6 am !

I had DLM when I joined a few months back that set my downstream sync at 14328. I didn't get around to asking them to manually set it to 16MB at the time then the news about the increased speeds was published. Are you saying that they won't DLM my line again as an existing customer but leave it as it is because I'm getting less than the current maximum sync? If that's the case then I need to contact them because I should easily get 20MB with downstream attenuation of 19.0 and NR 14.6:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14328 kbps 1022 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 8.9 db
Noise Margin 14.6 db 8.0 db

      Re: Sky advertise 20MB

wouldn't say easily get 20Mbps but close to it...I've seen one line on 20Mbps that had an attenuation of 12...

and as you're an existing customer you'll get 16Mbps max at the mo...20Mbps will be rolled out later this year...
