Please Advise Me On My Sync Speed

      Hey

I was wondering if someone could advise me on the sync speed I should be able to achieve with Sky Broadband (Unlimited).

I recently transferred from PlusNet where I was on ADSL2+ with a sync speed of about 15600kb downstream.

A few days ago (day after activation), i gave sky a call and got through to CST, I did this because I didn't believe my line was'nt in training because MySky account thingy said it wasn't in progress on my line and my sync was only 4000kb/s.

The operator said he would increase my sync to 12.5mb right then and there, I mentioned that my line had achieved 16mb with PlusNet and asked whether staying on DLM would let me achieve a higher speed, which he swiftly said no, (I am hoping you might confirm this).

Anyway here is my line stats, id like to know what you think!

      ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstream
      Connection Speed12474 kbps765 kbps
      Line Attenuation26.5 db12.6 db
      Noise Margin7.4 db12.0 db
      Thanks Very Much

Hi have a look at the first link potential connection speed on a low noise line you should achieve better speeds than you were told
The tell tell signs of DLM is the 412/794* upload stream rates, your speed may vary throughout the day have a look at this link
The links should help your question

      Hey
Ive already read both of those :P

Would you recommend I send a support message to sky and say ive improved my wiring ? Or something else. I believe the guy just capped it at that speed as it remains on it no matter how much I reboot :P

      When did you join Sky
whether staying on DLM would let me achieve a higher speed, which he swiftly said no, (I am hoping you might confirm this).
You should have let DLM do its job then when DLM had finished if the sync was low then you could have asked them to put it up have you had a look in your My Sky account to see what it is now

Re: Please Advise Me On My Sync Speed

At the time of calling I was under the impression that DLM was not happening on my line, and it was the advisor who kinda eagerly changed it all, not my suggestion. Once I was told I was on a 10 day training period I would have been happy.

Currently it says, as it did before:

      Connection details

      Your Connection details
Line testing is not currently in progress.
We continually look at ways to improve the quality of your broadband connection.
      Check back here for updates.
Im sure that im not still on DLM, the advisor said I would be removed from it.

Sometimes it can take a few days before DLM starts. Can you plug into your test socket and post your stats.

Re: Please Advise Me On My Sync Speed

Already am in test socket None of the other sockets in the house are used at all anyway, so I put in that one just to get the best quality possible.

Re: Please Advise Me On My Sync Speed

With your current attenuation and noise margin you are getting the most out of your line.

Suspending DLM and setting it manually has not reduced your overall speed, it has just removed the process of DLM testing before it got there.

Chances are that Plusnet allowed a lower SNR which is why you received a bit more speed, Sky set their default at 6.9db.

Re: Please Advise Me On My Sync Speed

tbh, i you went live a day or so ago, DLM wouldn't have started as it's takes about 24hrs for it to kick in...as said, you should've just waited as it's known that Max starts on 4Mbps and goes up...

having said that, it seems no one's taking one bit of notice about DLM and the fact it HAS to run the first time before manual config can be done...such a shame as Sky have invested a ton of money in it for people to ignore it...
