Re: should i ring sky to improve my speed

Hard to tell if your on adsl2+ with out full stats from the router which you can't get.
Your line attenuation of 48db suggests your approx 3.5km or more from the exchange. As such you could expect the following:-

dslMAX kbps 5312IP Profile 4500 kbps

adsl2+ (21CN) 5984kbps IP Profile 5000kbps

adsl2+ (LLU) 5984kbps Throughput 5296kbps

As your already syncing @ 6398kbps would suggest you getting as much as your attenuation is allowing. Your SNR margin is low at 5 db suggesting noise on the line.
Have you taken the stats with your router plugged into the test socket of your master socket? (split face plate NTE5 master socket) remove the bottom half and plug in to the test socket and then post stats again. This will take any extensions out of the loop.

What do you mean by the wires where loose? screw terminals and/or IDC terminals. As you can see your SNR margin has gone up by 2db on up and down side which is good = less noise.
However you have lost a little on the sync speed 373kbps which is about right due to the 2db increase in SNRM.

is your master socket of the NTE5 split face type?
