can't get to email or sky.com - is it IE 8 ????

I am on day 2 of not being able to get to the sky.com homepage or my email. When I log on to Internet Explorer, as sky.com is my home page, it initially looks like the whole service is jiggered as it just doesn't load- but if you go straight to a different URL is goes through straight away.
By googling I have found i can reach sky news & sky showbiz (like I care) but not sky.com or email & tools through any links on those pages (same issue - constantly 'trying' to load)
I really want my emails today & am getting a bit frustrated. Could it be to do with internet explorer 8 ???? That seems to have exacerbated the other problems I was already having on my justgiving sites so I wouldn't rule it out -
At least one other person in my road has had the same prob but I haven't asked them what version of IE they are running.
It is an official sky problem or is there something I can do with my settings or revertign to IE7 ???
