New wiring done has it improved anything?

Hello just had some new wiring done for my broadband the telephone socket i use is now wired internally from the master socket i thought this may mean i get a big improvement in speed as my line had been capped 6mb for a few years, after the wiring was done i rang sky up they said they would remove the cap, just wondeirng if i should be getting faster speeds on broadband max. Is it because my line is still unstable?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 17.4 db 14.0 db

With that attenuation, I would expect to see the following speeds.

ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This ADSL2 Line Speed Calculator is a best guess only, as to the broadband speed that maybe possible on your telephone line. The checker provides results of up to 24mb with the data that is made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Line Speed that you would receive on any ADSL or LLU product from another ISP.

SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator

Again your noise margin is high.

Re: New wiring done has it improved anything?

High thanks for your very quick reply! i will ring sky in the morning and see what is up. i had my router on for about 6 hours and had no drop out but then a few minutes ago the internet just stopped and reconnected. Does this mean that my wiring is still not good enough? i will leave it on all night see if it stays connected.

Edit: is my noise high because it is capped?

Re: New wiring done has it improved anything?

I am in no way an expert at stats, I just use the tools available to me.

I would imagine that you are capable of extra speed, but possibly there is another issue, either your wiring or at Sky's end as in it is still capped.

Can you post your stats from the test socket?

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

I am however convinced that you should be getting better than you currently are doing.

Max(Kbps): 11264 1248
Rate (Kbps): 5984 512

Shows me that the line can handle 11meg or so, but you are getting approx 6meg - It could be that you are in fact capped / DLM, but you really need some input off someone who knows their onions. (or about ADSL in reality)

Re: New wiring done has it improved anything?

ok thanks i will ring them soon, looking at the stats are there reduced errors after the new wiring? I'm just wondering why sky still left it capped, is it because the line is still not stable?

Re: New wiring done has it improved anything?

It's not that they have left it capped, it is more that the cap was in place because of errors and until you ring them it will stay that way, even if you have sorted out the issue, they don't know until you tell them that it is fixed.

Ring CST and they should be able to bump the sync speed up.
