In you opinion do you think I stand a chance of an increased line speed given these stats ?

      ADSL Link .......... Downstream..... Upstream
Connection Speed 8980 kbps....... 764 kbps
      Line Attenuation 39.5 db ........... 24.3 db
      Noise Margin .. 7.8 db ............. 13.0 db

I've logged into My sky for my status and they say..

      Your Sky Broadband
You have Sky Broadband Unlimited which offers a maximum download speed of up to 20Mb

      Speed Estimate
When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was: 10-20Mb.

      Thanks for any help
You should be seeing a bit more now, with regard to the download, the impending upgrade wont do anything for it, you should get a bit more upload.

As Andy says, check your internal setup and if you have a test socket try it and get the stats again.

Thanks to Andy 17 for his advice although I have no idea what this sentence means.... "Check to make sure that the ring wires (Terminal 3) on all your phone sockets are disconnected." ??

As for the test socket Smithy 99 - I think the extension I'm using was installed before the test socket was, and a hard wired line by passes it from a junction box, running directly upstairs to the socket I'm using. Thanks for your reply.

On the back of the phone sockets faceplate once unscrewed there are terminals numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 etc look to make sure that only the wires going to 2 and 5 are connected and leave the rest disconnected.

There should be no sockets connected unless they come from the NTE5 master, anything else could seriously affect your noise margin and attenuation.

You should consider doing it properly and either moving the NTE5 to replace the junction box which would allow you to use the existing cables and mean you could just fit a standard socket in the place of the NTE5 or remove the socket you are currently using and re-run it from the master.
