      Another 'Broadband is slow' issue

      Hi guys, dropping by again.

I had Sky BB Connect for like 16 months when it first released, then as i drifted off to UNI my parents cancelled it. Now that i am bckf or the summer we decided to get it again.

It worked fine when we first got it. I never done a speed test on it but i was getting excellent pings when playing my games. Now, about a month later, everything has gone down hill. I now receive dreadful pings on the games i play to the point where i can't play them.

I checked the router status and it says:

      DownStream Connection Speed 8128 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

I done various speed checkers on the internet and the results are showing results for download speed ot be between 0.5mb/s to 1.5mb/s and upload to be round about the 330 kb/s mark.

      Here is the connection status:

      System Up Time 00:06:48
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 3566 4935 0 1311 17015 00:06:24
      LAN 10M/100M 405 0 0 245 0 00:06:45
      WLAN 11M/54M 5569 4234 0 17221 1622 00:06:37

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 8.4 db 21.0 db

I have not changed anything, the setup is the same and the phonelines have not been changed.
If you guys have any suggestions or the cause please do.

      Thanks again.

Re: Another 'Broadband is slow' issue

See the various Connect threads, it is over capacity and is suffering during peak hours 5pm - midnight with slow speeds and increased latency.

Best advice would be to move to another ISP

Are you running any P2P applications? Some of these run automatically whether you start them or not. The Sky Player is one culprit, but any P2p client such as Limewire can do the same.
If you are not using Vista/Win7, do the Tweak Test using the DrTCP link below, this will ensure your settings are optimum.

It may also pay you to download and run Malwarebytes, this will find and remove most malware which can effect your connection. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

I know whats running on my pc, and it's not P2P software. Nothing is bringing my connection down.

I did a malware check yesterday too.

You must be the only student who is not downloading via P2P or torrents.

Sorry if my advice was a bit basic, we do get users here who have not a clue what is running on their PC. If you are getting low speeds outside the peak period, that is the first thing that springs to mind, especially with your excellent stats.

That's connect's traffic management at peak times, and many other times when capacity runs out
