Spoke to Sky and we're gonna just leave the connection for a few days to see how it all goes.....will get a further callback on Thur.

They did however mention about being placed on DLM after this saga.....some form of training period? Is this likely to impact my connection in some way i.e. increase or decrease the speed etc?

Yes, your speed will drop to 4mb and then start to rise as DLM tests the line for speed and stability, this can take atound 10 days but it usually rises quite quick in the first few.

The upside is that if DLM does it's job, you should end up with the best stable download and upload speeds for your line.

I'd assume as i'm currently syced at 15.3meg and no apparent issues.
Would it mean after DLM i'll be back at the same speed or higher?

So are you saying i'll start off at 4meg when DLM starts on my line?

I would not worry too much about DLM. We are all going to go through it sometime soon and at the moment nobody is really sure if it will start it the present spped your line is synced at, or if it will drop speed and then build up, as it does with new customers. You end up with the best speed Sky think your line can handle, it may be lower than you/we have now, we just have to wait and see

      Re: Disconnects 'n Speed Issues?

Just when i thought it was fixed!
The line dropped yesterday and also today
Looks like the noise margin is dipping below zero at one point....

When the connection dropped, it synced at 10meg...then following a reboot it gave 8meg....and the snr was all over the place...hovering between 4 to 0.

After a couple of hours, the snr eventually creeped to 14 when sycned at 8meg.
A reboot at this point put the connection to the norm of 15meg.
      Now giving solid stats of:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 32 db 18 db
Noise Margin 9 db 17 db

So as it stands, i'm not sure what to do....the connection has been fine for 4 days solid since BT did their changes; and thereafter i've now had the odd disconnect due to the usual drops in noise?

      Any ideas or suggestions?

Just a quick check, can you waggle the line plug where it connects to your router and see what happens, I assume you have moved the router to the filter faceplate, so could you also give this a waggle to. I know this sounds silly, but try

Yeah its moved to the filtered faceplate.

Well the connection has been stable for over 7.5hrs now with stats
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 33 db 18 db
Noise Margin 10 db 16 db

Whilst running routerstats and monitoring the SNR....
I do still get spike dips for a split second (between 1 and 3 db drop) from time to time i.e.10 to 7
Anyways I waggled the line cable and i thought it affected the noise margin initally; as i got a small spike dip for a second.....but i could not replicate it thereafter.....i.e. waggled the cable like heck and not impact on the SNR....its solid at 10db....

So i dont' think that impacts my line as such....

From what we know, i assume my internal wiring is fine based on the recent changes.......The E side changes has improved my line speed and SNR, and hence improved the stability of the connection as before. But i'm still having issues from time to time....not as frequent, but they do seem to occur?

Obviously the D side has not been changed....would that be the next thing; still, there was mentioned about the possibility of swaping to another card on the exchange? not sure what that was about.

Any other ideas on what the next step would be?

O.k the first thing to note is the "waggle test" results: it should be possible to give the plugs a good waggle with no effect at all on your BB, so a shot of WD40 (you can buy this from hardware shops and Tesco have it) on both plugs will do no harm.
Before Sky will take this any further they will wait to hear what Openreach have done so far and this may take some time, at least a week. so the best thing is to keep notes of how the BB performs and if the problem persists contact them again.

Yeah looks like i passed the waggle test.
Sky already know what Openreach did so far....in terms of the work carried out by the engineer visits.
I'm expecting a call tonight from Sky, so will mention the drop outs experienced.
Things have improved greatly since the last engineer visit.....but the only issue is the 2-3 drop outs noted.

Again, i'm not sure if i'm now being too picky here; as i'm wondering if its normal to have the odd drop out from time to time.

      Re: Disconnects 'n Speed Issues?

Sky back in touch and a so called ETS test for 24hrs has been requested for BT to carry out? Hopefully this would help them uncover what's going on, provided my connect will misbehave at some point soon?

Any ideas what an ETS test is all about?

In addition, DLM is currently running on my line....and i'm hoping to get a new modem replace just in case....i'd assume the netgear ones are better than sagem? As they're trying to source me a netgear one as i currrently have.
