      USB wireless adapter

Hi all I have just joined the group I hope and I have just got SKY Broadband.

I am a OAP with a very limited income, little knowledge of computers but I would like some help please.

I have been given a WG111v2 usb adapter and some CD's which are for WG111v3,WG111T,DG834GT and DG834G/DG834GB and I like to know if any of the CD's will help me go wireless with that adapter.

I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

      Ken

WG111v3 CD should work fine. If it doesn't come back and no doubt we can help you get sorted.

Go here - Answer - and download the correct driver for your adapter. Make sure that all the previous driver installation attempts have been removed from your machine by checking in the Add/Remove list, or Programs and features if you are using Vista. I am assuming you are not using a Mac.

One driver covers all versions of Windows.

      Re: USB wireless adapter

This is sometimes a symptom of a failed install leaving files in the Temporary folder. Try rebooting your PC. If this does not work, download, install and run Empty Temp Folder from here-
Empty Temp Folders - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

Also have a look in the Device Manager, USB section make sure nothing has a ? next to it. If it has, right click it and choose Uninstall. Then right click My Computer at the top and choose Scan for hardware changes and it will be reinstalled. While you are there, right click each USB Hub in turn, select Properties, then the Power Management tab. Untick the box for Allow the PC to turn off this device. This can cause problems in the future.

Remember do not plug in the adapter till you are instructed to do so. Make sure that there are no entries in the Add/Remove concerning Netgear.

      Re: USB wireless adapter

I have done and checked all and I thought I had won but when I setup the adapter I only get 6 of the 8 to light up. The problem now seems to get a better signal. I have just tried the adapter on my laptop and it gives 8 lights but only 6 when connected to the desktop in the same room.
