      21CN change causing disconnections?

I've been with Sky Broadband since more or less the start and have never had any problems with disconnections but for the past few weeks they've been constant 2 or 3 times a day.

I noticed on Sam Knows site that 21CN WBC was enabled as of 31/05/2009 which is about when these problems started because i also noticed that my connection was at around 6700kbps when it never normally connects above 6300kbps.

Could this 21CN enablement be causing these problems and should i phone Sky to try and change back to what i was on when it was stable?

      Re: 21CN change causing disconnections?

This 21CN isn't anything to do with sky LLU, it is just BT catching up with LLU providers.
Are those stats from the test socket, if not try from there and repost your stats, this will tell you if you have any internal wiring problems.

I don't have a test socket, its an old socket i have. I just find it weird the problems started since that was done.

You can make sure that the ring wire which is on terminal 3 of the faceplate are all disconnected, check every socket to make sure then repost your stats.
      Just pull the wire out.

Warning to OP - take care when executing this procedure, you don't want to end up with screwed up wiring!

      Re: 21CN change causing disconnections?

Long time since update but only just had chance to take faceplate off socket and check it. I have uploaded a picture below of my socket, i think i'm right in believing the ring wire was already disconnected.

I have been trying different set ups to rule out various thing and have so far ruled out the extension, phone, filter and sky boxes.

I'm more and more beginning to think its the hot weather which is causing problems on the line somewhere between my house and the exchange.

I've noticed i never get disconnections anytime between around 8pm - 10am and on Friday and Saturday (both bad weather days) i had no disconnections at all. It seems whenever the weather is above 20 degrees and the sun is shining they start. Any ideas?

i guess hot weather could cause the external line to expand and droop a bit more? (clutching at straws)

I really don't know. I'm just trying to find a link to why they have started alot in the last month or so.

Wondering if i should phone sky to see if they can sort it.

Correct - you have no extensions, this is just the dropwire terminating on the LJU acting as the main socket - are you testing with everything else unplugged bar the router - you don't have any internal moulded extensions that plug directly into the the front of the socket?

Also try a different filter if you have one (you never know!) with nothing plugged into the phone jack on the filter, just ur router.

      Re: 21CN change causing disconnections?

No disconnections at all in past 2 days and weather has been not very good.

It may sound silly but the link between the weather and the disconnections is very hard to ignore. As soon as it goes over 20 degrees and its sunny then the disconnections come.
