      Disconnect then speed drop

Hi about 1 hour ago my connection dropped and when it come back on my speed had dropped by just .5 of a meg from 14.3 to 13.6 I called sky to see if there was a problem they where saying there was errors on the line and that I have never received 14 megs. which is not true because I have here are the stats I was getting.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14366 kbps 767 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.5 db 18.6 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 16.0 db

I replaced the modem cable and put the grey cable in that came with the router that as made a bit of a difference. I called sky and they said the errors have gone from my line. I think they are holding my speed back from what I should be getting. They would not put me through to CST. Here is what Im getting now

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13853 kbps 767 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.0 db 17.8 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 15.8 db

Is there anything more I can do about it.

      Thank you

      Kevin

      Re: Disconnect then speed drop

The noise margin of 6.8 in your first stats shows that there is noise on your line. The connection has dropped and resynced at a speed it can maintain.

Cheers Isitme. Do my stats look more stable now. I still think 13.8 is a very good speed. A lot better than what BT where giving me.

      Thank you

      Re: Disconnect then speed drop

It depends on your line, but it is now above the default noise margin so you should be OK. If you do not have a filtered faceplate and you have extensions, try the test socket if you have one. Your internal wiring could be holding you back a bit.
