      Broadband losing connection.

Since about 4 weeks ago my internet connection has been dropping everyday from after 12 midday, it will drop out and take about 5 to 10 minutes to reconnect and when it does connect it is really slow(pages take 5-10 minutes to load) and my connection speed drops. I have to constantly reboot the router in order to get it to work but most of the time I just have to wait until later on in the evening for it to become stable again(I'm not plugged into the master socket). Here are my current router statistics. About 10 minutes ago I was having the same issue and it has seemed to become a bit more stable but still slow.

Connection Speed 3072 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 10.0 db

To rule out any internal wiring problems, could you post your stats while connected to the test socket of you master phone socket.

Fair enough, while you are doing this just check a couple of other things.
      (1) check that while you are using the test socket, there is no dial tone at any other extension telephone sockets.
      (2) Check there is no noise on the telephone line. Plug a normal wired telephone in the test socket, dial a number to kill the dial tone and listern. there should only be a low hiss, no pops or crackle.

Also, remove any wires in terminal 3 on the back as you do not need them and it can cause interference.

      Re: Broadband losing connection.

      My Master Socket :
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 15.8 db 10.0 db

      My Test Socket :
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 16.7 db 11.0 db

      Socket I normally use :
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 13.1 db 10.0 db

The line also sounds clear, no crackling or pops.

I'm guessing a low noise margin of 7db in my first post leads to drop outs, the noise margin always falls in the afternoons.

      Re: Broadband losing connection.

Well they are much better figures, and indicate that your internal wiring is the problem and that Sky have capped your speed.
First of all there is no point in calling Sky yet, the first thing to do is to see if you can re-locate your router near to the master socket. If you can then get a filter faceplate, fit it in accordance with the instructions that come with it, then you can call Sky and get the capp lifted.
If you cannot re-locate your router, then carry out Smithy's advice and remove any wires connected to "3" on the master faceplate.

Just seen your edit, I would still go for the router re-locate if you can, as there must be a reason that Sky capped your speed in the first place.

      Re: Broadband losing connection.

They capped my speed because I used to have 4mb but it was too fast and constantly made my router drop out when downloading. I'll do another few checks tonight when the noise margin is low upstairs just to see what its like downstairs.

      Re: Broadband losing connection.

You should get 4-5Mb quite easily, phone and ask them to lift the cap a bit. It is a bit difficult to understand why your first stats show such a low noise margin, it could be you are suffering from REIN Interference
