      Unhappy Frustrating Speed Problem! Speed/Gaming Issue.

      Hi, heres my story....


      I signed up to Sky Broadband on the mid package well over a year ago. It was 8meg, I actually recieved between 6 and 7 and that was perfect for me. I do alot of downloading and play my Xbox 360 online too.

      Recently its dropped to 3.5meg and my downloads are terribly slow and I find it very hard to play online games without any lag.

      To help solve the problem ive upgraded to 16meg, my upload speed jumped from around 200kb up to well over 700+kb, (fantastic!) but my download speed remains the same?

      3.5 sounds plenty to play online right? But i always have the worst connection in the games?

      Ive been on the phone many times to sky and time after time found it hard to speak to the lousy Tier 1 support, however luckily one time I spoke to an english support maybe Tier 2 who was very helpful, they idenitfied my line could hold upto 8meg and could see there was a problem. But nothing was done about it despite me asking? I was fobbed off with some socket advice which I had already previously done?

      Ive done every check in the book to make sure my setup/filtres etc etc are fine and they are... So what am I to do? I need to get back to my previous speed between 6-7.

      If anyone knows something I should try or can identify where im going wrong please i beg you to help me!

      These are my stats from the router page....

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 4095 kbps 796 kbps
      Line Attenuation 40.0 db 21.4 db
      Noise Margin 4.0 db 13.5 db

      Your noise margin is very very low which is killing the connection. Try the router in the test socket and repost the stats.

      he's not on DLM, the upload is the giveaway...it'd be 512kbps if he recently regraded...

      he is on adsl2+ though...

      Maybe he should have a look at the Broadband Details on his My Sky page, maybe it will have some info.
      DLM or not the noise margin is far too low, if it is running or does run, it is going to reduce the speed to practically nothing. Plugging into the Test socket is the only way to rule out internal problems.

      Hi everyone, thank you for the responses!

      Ive read each of your posts....


      narl - I took apart the phone socket to find that I only have 1 socket? I do not have a test socket? If im blindly doing something wrong or looked at the wrong thing please let me know!


      steve - I upgraded about two weeks ago


      Isitme - I dont think I have a test socket? I logged onto the Sky page and it says there are no details availible. So im not sure where to go from there.


      ALSO...

      Logged on today, my connection has dropped by 1meg

      new stats....

      Ive phoned them many times and theyve been very unhelpful, im going to phone them again right now, i'll post what they say in a bit when im off the phone to them.

      you're best calling after 10:30ish tonight...you've more chance to get to CST in one call and only they can adjust the line...

      Just got off the phone to Sky, actually got straight through to CST as it goes (lucky!) ... a DLM has now been put on my line, so all I can do is wait the 10 days and go from there. I wish that they could have done this in the 1st place to save me alot of trouble. Ahh well, fingers crossed it will get sorted.
