It is possible you have software on your PC which is slowing you down. Have a look at your connections using the Command Prompt running netstat /b That will show you what you have using your connection.

What you could also try is starting in Safe Mode with Networking and try your speedtest. This will bypass your firewall and other security software and give you an optimum figure. Obviously, as you will have no protection, don't hang around on line too long.

      Re: High ping, slow speed

i tried some speed tests within safe mode, ping ranged from 88 to 86 and download speed was around 5mb

then i tried some speed tests while logged in normally, ping was 88 to 86, download speed ranged from 5 to 7mb so now i dont no what to think

also, i tried the command promt test, it only showed firefox and the web pages i was connected to

to be honest if it stayed like this i would be happy and leave it at that but that ping is still a little high for gaming

*edit* speed has already gone down to its normal slow speed, ping has shot up too, is it time to just contact sky?

      Re: High ping, slow speed

i just read up on DLM and i think i no the problem

during the DLM period my brother reset/reboot the router atleast once a day in an attempt to get a better connection while playing his online games

could this be the cause of the higher sync/slower download speed?

It certainly would not help. Whilst under DLM its best to leave your router running 24/7 switching on and off may cause the DLM to think there is a problem and adjust your line accordingly.
Personally I leave my router on 24/7

You could ring and try get CST and ask them to manually reset your line.

      Re: High ping, slow speed

I very much doubt if Sky will be able to help, your stats are OK. If you were able to get a better speed on Safe Mode this shows that the problem is with your PC set up, nothing to do with Sky.

I would advise downloading and running the free version of Malwarebytes This will scan your PC for malware which may be effecting your connection.

About the only other thing you can do is uninstall all your security software and test your speed. If it has improved, add your applications back one at a time until you find what is causing the holdup.

Do you have any of the iPlayers installed? These can badly effect a connection, the same as P2P or torrents.

i suspect your right, after wasting 30 mins with tier 1 i finally got put through to CST where i asked for the line to be reset, sync speed is now around 8000 and ping has been lowered but i only notice this change in safe mode

i have begun uninstalling antivirus, BBC iplayer and p2p programs and i already have malwarebytes installed so im doning a full scan now

      hopefully this will work
