Constant disconnections, have read other threads, but still need help

      Hello

The problem i am experiencing is constant drop outs of my connection, literally, every 15-30 minutes, this generally occurs in the evenings, but it could just be a coincidence.
I have read various posts on noise and such, but i dont fully understand it, and even then, when resetting my router during peak periods, it unforunately has not solved the problem.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4698 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 44 db 25 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db

Downstream noise margin goes as low as 4 at time, upstream stays the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am at the end of my tether!

Can you explain your physical setup? How many telephone sockets on the line, where is the router plugged into, any extensions etc?

well, i dont think it could be that, as it has worked flawlessly since we first got sky broadband, which was many many months ago, but i'll describe it anyway.

My PC is connected by cable to the router. Router->extension cable->round back of house->to a downstairs phone socket, with no phone attached, just a micro filter and the extension cable. There is one other phone socket in use, and that has a micro filter attached to it as well as the cable from the phone.

Quick update in the error, its also happening frequently this morning, dont know if thats a peak time or not

Have you tried plugging your router into the Master test socket?
BTW How is you extension wired, have you disconnected the bell wire?

Unfortunately, i must confess that i have no idea what a master test socket it.

As for the extension, i dont now what a bell wire is either, but ill try to explain my set up.
Router-> white normal telephone cable-> extension (consists of a circular plastic container with the wire inside it, the wire can be pulled out like a tape measure, the end of this is plugged into the microfilter, which is plugged into the phone socket)

Plug into the Test socket, link below and take your stats from there. If the extension you are using is the typical twin flat telephone extension, I could almost guarantee that you Test socket figures will be far better. You will find that your speed and/or noise margin will rise and you may even find your attenuation drops. With your present attenuation you should get 7-8Mb.

Re: Constant disconnections, have read other threads, but still need help

It is highly likely that your extension wiring is causing your problem, I'm surprised the extension you describe works at all.
It is necessary for you to find you Master telephone socket, unscrew the faceplate and connect your router to the test socket.
have a read of this article it should give you a better idea of what to do.

would it still work if i plugged the extension cable which connects to the router into the master socket?

Using an extension, especially a twin flat type will degrade the signal. If you must use an extension get one made of twisted pair wire, this will reduce some of the interference.
