      Re: broadband help

if you re-connect your faceplate and only attatch the modem to the main socket (without the sky boxes) what are your stats like?

I think you could also try it without the filter to see if the flter is causing the problem and needs to be replaced (unless you have a spare you could try)

Do you not have a landline telephone in the house? or do you just use your mobile?

      Re: broadband help

ok well your downstream noise margin is showing the same as wen connected to the test socket but your upload has gone off the scale...not sure whats going on there.

Where is your home phone connected in the house? is it attatched to a filter?
You say you have 2 sky boxes which are connected to the main socket filter with a splitter, what kind of distance of cable is there between the sky boxes and the main socket?

re-attatch the splittler into the main socket filter and then power the router on and off. Then post the stats again to see if its the splitter/extension to sky boxes that is causing the noise problem.

      Re: broadband help

looks like your noise margins have stablised now (perhaps disconnecting face plate and re-connecting oddly resolved it? or did you change the filter over?)

Either way your best giving sky a ring now and tell them you fixed some problems with your noisey line which was causing problems, ask them if they can now perform line testing or increase your speed manually to the correct speed (think you should get full 8mb on your mid package with your current stats) and possibly more if you upgraded to max.

Let us know how you get on

      Re: broadband help

Be wary about thinking everything is OK just because you now have a high noise margin. I have seen instances where the margin was good when first plugged back in after checking the master, then it drops like a stone after some time has passed. The fact that your margin was much lower before you tried the test socket suggests there is something in your internal wiring causing noise on the line. Check your noise margin again after a few hours, if it has fallen back, you know something is wrong.

The severe drop in the upstream margin in one test suggests you may have a dodgy filter.

How many extensions do you have wired into the Master socket? Not plugged in, but on to the rear of the faceplate. If you have any at all, buy, fit and use a Filtered Faceplate This will isolate all your internal wiring and solve most of your problems.

They are very easy to fit and come with instructions. For anyone with extensions they are the best investment you can make.
